Hey Everyone, What should be my content strategy for an all-new website. I have sorted out the keywords, I want to work on but I confused how to start.
How frequently should I add content (post/pages)? should I create content for tougher keyword first or go with long-tail keywords initially. Also how often should I post (articles/pages) on my website when starting out. This is going to be my long term project so i want a good start.

Content of article should be unique and use primary keywords more than secondary keywords. Add those keywords to meta description, title tag and page URL. Mostly approx 7 keywords per article is enough but it depends totally on you. you are a beginner add one or two post per day, it would improve your site and draw new customer.

Is it a service website or a blog?

Select your keywords by not just looking at competition but also take note of search engine landscape for those keywords.

Donot go for generic keywords in the beginning. Try long tail keywords and use the concept of KGR keywords.

Try to write about trending topics of your niche and keep your focus. Decide on the schedule and stick to that. As a rule of thumb you should be doing frequent content posting in the beginning. Create content for both on page and off page activities. Contextual backlinking is a must have these days.

Decide on what type of content do you want to generate. Make your content funnel and sync that with your business/work goals to be able to target all audiences at all funnel levels.

I hope this helps.

I would definitely go with longtail keywords as your site is brand new.
Try to write at least 1k words article

it doesn't matter whether they are posts or pages as long as they are meaningful (they contain unique content that helps your visitors). Google doesn't discriminate between pages and posts when it comes to SEO so don't worry about that.

Regarding the content strategy.... just make 10-20 posts (content posts I mean, not pages like Contact Us, About Us, Privacy Policy, etc.) initially and then post at least 1 post per week for 1 year. You can post more if you want, but I wouldn't post more than 1-5 times per week if your domain is new. The thing with Google is that it wants to see freshness, relevance and consistency. These are your main weapons as a beginner so you will want to post as much content as humanly possible, to make it as relevant to your keyword / topic as possible, and to post content consistently. Even one single article per week (or even every 2 weeks) but which gets posted every single week for all eternity is better than 100 articles posted today and then nothing for 6 months. So, consistency, consistency, consistency.

And it's better to target low competition keywords first instead of high competition (high traffic-ed) keywords because your site is new and you need traction in order to improve and consolidate your rankings. And as your site starts getting organic traffic (which will probably happen after at least 3-4 months, maybe more, if you are being consistent with your posting) and starts ranking for all sorts of weird and unheard of keywords that you will not even know exist you will also start ranking for higher competition keywords, and at that point you can start targeting high competition keywords if you want to. But in the beginning it's best to start small.

Also, you didn't mention this in your comment, but I am saying it anyway because it's important. So, backlinks... some sites do rank based on content alone, but most of them won't rank anywhere, no matter how good the content is. So, you need backlinks, and you need quality backlinks, too. Crappy backlinks don't do the trick anymore, and if you buy those backlinks when your domain is new (and clean) you will shoot yourself in the foot and delay its ranking. Better to acquire 3-10 backlinks per month but - again - do it consistently for 1 year instead of getting 1000s of backlinks from "SEO packages" that promise you 100 web 2.0 backlinks, millions of social signals, edu. profiles and all that crap. If you do this - I have done it on one of my sites last year - you are just shooting yourself in the foot like I said. So, get quality backlinks and even if it's fewer of them as long as they are quality backlinks (from guest posts on sites that are RELEVANT to your niche, have decent DA metrics and which also get organic traffic from google) it will MUCH better than getting 1000s of web 2.0 and profile backlinks on spammed (easy and free to get backlinks from) sites. But these backlinks will probably cost you dearly, so be warned!

Its a Blog, Thank you

Even if the keyword competition is low, should I target 1K words or more. There are new sites that are ranking with 400-500 words articles.

As others have stated above - start with long long tail keywords with length 1K and above. What type of content do you plan to write - evergreen topics or news type?

Evergreen

How often you write new content depends on your workload but ideally you want to add content at least twice a week I'd say. Don't rush out a ton of articles then go dormant for weeks/months at a time. Rather work on a comfortable schedule for yourself that you know you can continue with for a long time.

Use tools like buzzsumo if you can to find out the latest trends in your niche and what topics your competitors are writing about. It lets you see how those articles are trending in social media shares/views. Try to write articles on those topics.

Look up competitor websites and really observe their articles, especially the really old ones. Maybe there are new approaches to problems they covered in those articles. Maybe there are new keywords being used and trending on Google that cover the same topics. Write a similar article using updated information. Now your website will appear to be the one that is keeping up with the latest trends and you can win more recurring viewers.

Keywords: Create a list of your core 5 keywords and try to target those but also target longtail keywords. Do not oversaturate the keywords in your articles.

Go with longtail keywords first

Depending on the niche you're targeting, shoot to publish 80 to 110+ pieces of content before working to earn links

Alternatively, you can move on to your next site after posting 80 to 110+ posts?

Word count? Depends on your competitors in the SERPS
