My Journey Building a Startup from Scratch: YouTube Rank Tracker

Hey everyone, after reading everyone's journeys on here as inspiration, I decided to build a web application from scratch filling a small niche: Free YouTube Rank Tracking Software, since as someone with a somewhat popular YouTube Channel, I thought it would be great for some way to actually track my videos rank according to a specific keyword - so would a lot of people on here too.

As you can tell I'm not worried about privacy and "outting my niche" like other people on this forum, but that's fine. I come from the mindset that building something that you can call your own is and having full disclosure regarding your journey is important.

I just started developing the tracking software two weeks ago and it essentially does what the URL implies, gives you the ability to see your YouTube video's page rank for a particular keyword and once you sign up and login, the ability to keep track of your rank searches and automatically updates them weekly. I know it doesn't do much now, but I'm certainly going to add some additional features.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I'll be updating this thread overtime showing how I'm improving and trying to increase it's visibility to eventually making it profitable.

I don't see the issue, it's not like I'm trying to sell anything. Just wanted to put it out there for one, and writing about it on here will help keep me accountable in future development and growth. I mean right now I'm not getting any traffic and I'm going to share what I'm going to do in regards to SEO tomorrow.

What are you talking about? Somewhere in this world everyone is stealing somebody else's idea. I guess you haven't been around long enough to realize that. You simply have to put your own spin on it. Look at FaceBook there was MySpace prior to that and Friendster prior to that. A lot of times you can compete in a market with branding and knowledge alone, which is why Facebook made such enormous growth so quickly in universities. I'm not comparing this to FB by the way.

Oct 3rd, 2016 - Didn't get to do much today, I was working with advertising networks for another project, however, I did some research on a few blogs competitors use for link juice. There really isn't a lot of free online YouTube rank tracking applications, so I have to grind it out and potentially pay some bloggers to write a few lines about it for the backlink. I also realized I need to fix the email functionality I build into the web application.

Don't worry about the people that shit on you for putting your business out there. There is also another guy on here, jamie, that has a free product that he promotes, before he got Jr. VIP.

You'll get some loyal visitors soon once you get a decent amount of traffic, but how are you planning to monetize this?

I suggest you do what serplab do with their subscription/free member ranks.

Hey jiungsong, cool I've been lurking for a while and thought this would be a great place to track progress on the application, although there are a few haters, but that's everywhere. I already have a somewhat popular web site and thought I could make something useful for people who make money via YouTube. What's the other guys thread, I'm interested in seeing it.

I'm not certain how I'm going to monetize YouTube Rank Tracker yet, I was thinking about donation, but after looking at serplab, it seems like the way to go. I'll probably emulate their business model. I personally think making a tool or something that people want is significantly better than the race to the bottom a lot of the methods people post on here post.

Bulk import via csv file possible ?

Well I am looking for a working YT rank tracker.

There are a bunch of serp trackers out there ... But none really can handle eg 500 videos * 3 keywords . They are either uber expensive. Don't have bulk import ...

I tried some software tracking ... But the usual stuff is not really shining enough for me ...

I can definitely do that. Can you give me an example format of what the csv you would want look like?

whoaa. cool. that would be awesome.. cause even the expensive 50$/month cant do that correctly.

csv:
url,keyword,keyword2,keyword3.

example:
robbins,selfhelp,success
advice,self love


If possible, can you also great like a "project" to group those videos somehow?
If possible at a time-to-check feature, eg. check daily, weekly, and so on. for most of my projects weekly check is enough, for some daily is necessa.ry
If possible, can you somehow add a feature to auto scrape the tags and ad them as a keyword to url?

eg offer something like 500 free urls, 1000 urls for 5$/month and so on..

Thanks for the excellent ideas. I'll get done the CSV import by this weekend for you. I just made a class that analyzes the csv files. The time to check and the tagging feature wouldn't be too difficult to produce too. Can you send me an example CSV that you would use in a PM for me? I want to make sure I'm using a csv that someone who actually would use the service.

I just added the importing CSV functionality for the YouTube Rank Tracker albeit a little bit late. Let me know if you have any issues with it. I'll get on to adding the project functionality next.

Looks pretty good, I just tried it out for a couple of my videos. Will give the import function a try soon. Good luck with your journey!

Eventually, but right now I'm interested in simply building the service out more and actually offering a decent tool for people to use. It takes a lot of traffic to be profitable and Google page rank is the key.

Finally getting some time to work on this again. Just added hrefs to each individual video and keyword on your saved rankings. Now I have to work on a javascript page sort.

Last update was like over 10 Days ago. Is there a option to check daily, weekly, and so on?

Hey darulz, I just found and resolved that bug. If a rank was blank and tried to update and still was blank it would throw an error just on the background update job. I have a cron to run an update on all videos weekly. I will add a button to manually update ranks in an upcoming update. Thank you for your input!
