just for hanging out, you think google could penalise websites it can associate with people visiting this site? my browsing habits are so lazy, I google name of site I want to visit, could google track these links, and subsequently penalize my sites because I come here and other places.. time to stop using google perhaps

Well, I know I am gonna get flamed for saying this, but wow, this video (and a few of the recent ones) makes me think positive. The message that I got from his recent videos is "Build a business, focus not only on link building, and don't spam - We will make you win".. if this really becomes a truth, the best of the webmasters will win and it's really fair from my point of view.
BUT, this will only help if ALL OF THE BLACKHAT SITES are removed from every niche, which I don't think will be the case...

I won't flame you b/c I somewhat agree with you. After I got hit with Panda 3.3 and then the first penguin, I really had to reevaluate buying links from the BST section and from other providers b/c those strategies did not end up having very good results. And I know there are ways around the current google "rules" but then google will move the goal posts and then you get fucked again.
I was able to get out from the first penguin after they did the first refresh and god was I happy b/c that shit sent my traffic to zero. I am still under some kind of panda 3.3 penalty, but with so many iterations of panda since 3.3 I don't know exactly what is going on with that.
So when I heard cutts say they were looking for signals to loosen the grips of Panda on authority sites I almost busted a nut in my pants! I thought to myself I have an authority site, my site is in the medical field, so I am hoping something works itself out this summer with panda.

I was very happy to hear when he mentioned about Black hat Forums. Its pretty sure he keeps an firm eye on Black hat forums and its services, as he did mentioned about all of them. So waiting for the surprises.

alright, we got a fan of mozilla...i find myself using mozilla, chrome and IE...i use the three browsers for different sections/businesses of my life...i find it easier to organize myself by browser...

2. The really smart person
If you have ever bought a public blackhat service on this fourm or elsewhere you fall into the number 1 category. Google could pay 1 person 30k a year to monitor this fourm 24/7 if they wanted to.

Some things change, and one thing that remains consistent is how many anti-cutts fans show up to act like little kids. You do realize he's 1) an engineer 2) intelligent 3) a figurehead spokesperson and 4) a big ass nerd (not hard to see that). I get so sick and tired of the little kids that show up on this forum and spew their bullshit when stuff comes down the pipe from Google. Instead of decrying the figurehead, why don't you go about reverse engineering the algo updates and then come back to the table and post something constructive? Is that to much to ask? Apparently it may be...
My gut feeling, as several have suggested here is that tiered link building will take a massive hit and the house of cards which so many link service providers put up for their clients will start to fall apart. I actually welcome that. I do. Everyone and their mother that can push a button to build a backlink have been pseudo gaming the algorhythm, but now, I think the field will level out a bit and real blackhatters who aren't dependant on one click tools will rise above the rest.
The other thing I think that will take a hit is Sape and several other "known" power networks.
And for everyone else saying "my sites haven't been affected?!?!?"..get a clue. The algo's will be rolled out into production soon. I'm sure several datacenters will be tested on and changes rolled out incrementally.

Some good thoughts here and I am sure many people will be affected. Having been affected by these updates in the past I don't wish that feeling on anyone. I have not manually built one link since my site came out of the first penguin refresh. I may have earned some organic links from random people, but I have really gone the opposite way as my business still makes money with just the panda 3.3 penalty. If panda is every loosened a little bit, I really hope my site will fall into the grey space cutts is talking about.

To this and a few posters above stating that google is creating a better and safer web by being a great search engine and trying to show the most relevant results..... have you seen how the SERP real-estate is dominated by google ads, shopping, and other owned and sponsored properties? Are those really the most relevant results? Also please explain to me why exactly a well SEOed site where the webmaster/seo has taken the time to build a solid site, and has gone through the painstaking process of building loads of links from all across the web, using anchors, contextual linking... blog posts, social signals, etc etc etc. Even if it is using so called "blackhat tactics" where links are build by automation... Why The F should that site not rank and be under threat of penalty?
Panda I understand. Content needs to be good and legit. Valuable information offered to the searcher... absolutely. But how is it that good hardworking people (marketers/SEO's/bloggers/whatever) who build up a site, or even small mom and pop shops who take their business online..... decide to get into this thing called SEO, have some links built because they are trying to succeed online... how is it a good thing for the web, or creating a better search engine to penalize them right out of the SERPS, many times destroying livelyhoods, months of hard work, and hope of succeeding. Then what, they have to go on their hands and knees and send re-consideration requests? Use the disavow tool to give google more fodder? ...... yep, if that's building and maintaining a better search engine, maybe I have missed the point.
And those championing Matt Cutts, if he's in any way shape or form responsible for Penguin and thereby the direct creation of Negative SEO which is now a very real and disgusting part of online marketing and SEO.... so much to the point that clients are contacting me to destroy ranking of their competitors (which I will never do and shame on anybody who uses these tactics) .... if this is his idea of a better search engine and a better internet, then he's a freaking douche and you can thank him the next time somebody neg SEO's your site and all your hard work and $$$ go down the toilet.

yeah, the biggest shame of penguin is that negative seo is so easy...i have never done it, but it would be so easy to do if that is what i wanted to do...
