We were using 20-25 randomly selected hashtags from a group of 300+ in the post captions for a while until June 28th.

We stopped using any tags on two of our accounts on that date (June 28th) and then added them back again on July 10th.

Right when we stopped using the tags, the daily followers increased on both pages. There were fluctuations, but they trended up hitting at hone point the highest number in over 60 days. After July 10th, they continued trending down until they hit the same levels prior to the removal on June 28th.

I'm not sure if this was a coincidence or not or if there was some kind of IG update during this time that might have helped both of these pages, but it doesn't look like a coincidence.

What do you guys think?

Regardless, we just removed all the tags on our scheduled posts today to see if this effect can be repeated.

Did you randomly chose 20-25 hashtags for each post or did you use the same (once randomly selected) hashtags all the time?

We randomly selected them for each post, so they change every time.

i stopped using hashtags sep/october of 2018 and saw no difference. all accounts growing at same rate/better rate than before with less stress to me about those damn things.
Now, it is my firm belief hashtags make better toilet paper than tools to help grow.( for me speaking -- quotes/motivation/meme niche)

Lol about the toilet paper part, but you're probably not far from the truth. What I wondered is if IG would give you the same reach without them, but apparently they do. Another good thing is that removing them will likely reduce a lot of the useless bot followers, which might be healthy for the page in the long run. Just my thoughts. Not sure if I'm correct.
