[Journey] Building Authority Sites with $5k or Less

Just so you know, you really shouldn't go off how many search results you see for keywords. One of my keywords has 24k allintitle 15k allinurl and i am number 6 atm. Wasn't hard either to get to this position, and hopefully it will go up more as its risen from 22 since 27th november.

Focus on the top 20 sites and analyse them carefully. Some just have natural strong backlinks, which i think can be beaten easily, and some have backlinks from scrapebox etc but don't have then being built on a daily basis so are also easy to beat. Constant link building and diversity is what will rank you, and good content of course.

Are you likely to update it further or let us know how things went? Did it fail? Or are you too busy on the beach?

What tools do you use to check their backlinks to see whether they are "being built on a daily basis"?

Not much to update this time

I ordered some test articles from a BHW user here, Deleted member 84902, and the content was very good. I'm still testing out some more article writers, but just gave Deleted member 84902 like 70 more articles to do.

I'm getting a pretty steady 10 visitors / day for the real estate website, and about 5 visitors / day for the dental website. Most of my traffic is coming from other websites, but I am starting to rank for random keywords on G, even though I still haven't done much backlinking.
I have 6 real estate kw's in top 100, 11 in top 200. I have 1 longtail ranking first page For dental I have 3 in the top 100, 4 in the top 200.

Some key realizations for me: Because I did poor kw analysis in the beginning, doing the backlinking part for keywords is going to be a lot more messy. I went through all the keywords, put them in Excel, have the traffic info from Adwords, and competition from TrafficTravis (Thanks johnnyd77). I still have hundreds of keywords, so I filtered the kw list down by hiding kw's with less than 500 exact local/mo, and less than $10/mo rev with the LBrown estimated adsense rev.

I try to rank my kw's based on "return on effort spent backlinking" which is roughly potential revenue vs PR and # backlinks for each kw. And here's how I do it:

I export the competitive research from TrafficTravis and merge my data to excel. So then I have keywords, with the number of local searches, value, and competition data.
I sort Z-A for money, then A-Z for backlinks, and then A-Z for pagerank. This gives me a list of keywords sorted by highest value, lowest competition. Then I backlink according to the order of the kw's. This way, as the authority and trust of my site increases, I can compete and rank for higher more valuable keywords. Hopefully this works out, haha.

Backlinking Strategy:
Think I've read 50+ different threads on backlinking strategies. They all basically come down to really similar points:
1. Make sure your site has unique human written content and good onsite SEO.
2. Make web 2.0 sites manually or with senuke, and add unique (or quality spun) articles. These point back to your money site either homepage or inner pages.
3. Blast the web 2.0's with SB, AMR, forum profile links, social bookmarks, etc.

Shoutouts to xenix9 and NapsteR for not only outlining their methods, but also being patient enough to answer all the newbie followup posts in their threads.

Todo:
Do xenix9 method for 20 keywords I want to rank for. I need to setup TBS and do 10x web 2.0 for 1 kw. Then I can outsource the task to a VA after I know how to do it myself. After that, I'll get and set up AMR, read a bunch of guides, and set up an AMR blast to random directories. If I'm running out of time, I'll look for Fiverr gigs. The 20 kw's are not that competitive or high traffic, they'll give me an estimated $1,000/mo rev total.

Summary:
Instead of outsourcing all the backlinking, I want to try doing manual linkpushes myself for 1 month, see the results, and then decide if I need to hire a pro to help me rank. Think I'm getting the hang of competitive analysis. Also I am talking to BHW Stephan to see if he can do some kw research for me to make sure I can at least guarantee some low competition, good earning kw's.

Hey mate, this is a great thread.

A few months ago I started a MNS site purchased from BTB. I'm in a similar situation to yourself, currently working 9-5 and extremely busy outside of work, I don't have the time to put into manual work, but I have reasonable amounts of money to invest.

I've currently got my site up to about 90-130 hits a day, but monetising my niche is terrible. I'm only on about $1 a day at the moment so I'm thinking of starting a new site with a better quality of visitor. I've tried everything and just can't squeeze any money out of these visitors.

I'll be following this closely, and doing something very similar myself starting in a month or so.

I've still got a bunch of articles and link pushes already paid for on my original site, so I'm going to get all of them up and then give it a bit of time to see how everything performs, and once I've learned all I can from this site, I'll begin on my next one.

The biggest issue will be content creation. Most writers fail to take into consideration the visitors point of view. Finding good writers with a flair for content creation would be your greatest challenge.

Refrain from getting just any backlinks. Forum profiles and blog comments are not as effective as they used to be. Pay attention to the PR of the sites you want link from.

Bookmarking is highly effective. Article marketing still can be helpful. Do not forget to take a look at some gigs on FIVERR. Only use the high PR gigs with strong reviews.

Finding keywords to write about will also be a huge challenge. Google is full of tricks and misinformation. I have seen keywords that shows high search volume and then to discover no profit in the top position.

I am also building two authority sites (finance and health) and it is a money pit in the beginning.

As you get bigger, google would do manual inspection on your sites. When you start seeing your articles indexed in just minutes, that means you're making some progress.

Your images will be the first to rank, but conversion is lousy and they do affect your bounce rate. From some reliable sources, it would take a while before Google starts sending you high paying traffic.

I personally will senuke each article created just to insure good work and nice setup. To save money look for VPS providers that give you senuke as part of the package.

Hey OP, this has been a good read and it seems like this thread hasn't been updated in ages, I certainly hope you have not given up.

It would great if you could update on the rankings so far for your major keywords. I suppose that ranking your current keywords are the most important thing at hand as well as adding articles regularly.

If you read BTB's threads, he mentions that you should target the low hanging fruit first before moving up to the more competitive keywords.

My 2 cents: I feel that you are dipping your hands into too many things at once. Reading too many threads and trying out too many things at once. It's a classic BHW syndrome, haha. Backlink versatility is good but you don't want to go overboard either. As what some experts here advise, make your own blueprint that words, duplicate it for success.

Sorry for the delay. I ended up putting $5k into a JV with SyGyZy, and I am getting over $1k/mo for 6 months. Also I am using his SEO service to build more content for my two sites. Currently they only get like 10 visitors / day, I haven't done much backlinking besides dripping unique articles to them.

I'll continue updating this thread if/when there is something worth updating.

Ah dang, I was looking forward to see what you have done with the sites.

Curious as to who you have writing quality articles. Have used freelancer at $2 an article. The articles came out ok, but not great. Thankfully I can have my wife proofread them and fix them. Looking for something better even if I have to pay more.
