Facebook is what happens when you build a system with great potential, and no real focus.
"we'll have people connect with each other!"
Great idea! Because MSN messenger, ICQ, and AIM are sure alive and kicking. And we know everyone uses Skype, not just business people and families video-chatting.
Facebook's stock debacle is a perfect example that "there really is no there there". It's a mess.
Most new users are fake, a TON of existing users are fake, the general population of FB is on the decline, their ad system is still a joke, their API is mystical to all but the deans at MIT.
They're talking about having their own email system, talking about having their own search engine, talking about making their site also more of a dating site....Facebook, you have ADHD. You are the epitome of the BHW user that reads a bunch of methods and never focuses on one.
The problems that affect people on BHW negatively apparently also affect entire corporations. There's a quote kinda about this that goes something like- the things that cause kings to fight are the same things that make neighbors get upset with one another.-
FB will turn into a marketplace, and people will go elsewhere to socialize. So, it's not dying, it's changing.
