Melatonin is kind of the accepted weak-sauce over-the-counter method of helping you sleep (it's the chemical your brain releases when it gets dark, to indicate it's time to sleep. More commonly used to help get over jet lag). Best parts about it: does not change your mental state, is not addictive, and gives me (personally, anyway) crazy dreams (in a good way

). Worst parts: weak-sauce

, but it might be less messed up than having an impossible sleep schedule. They're also guaranteed to put you to sleep no matter what.
Pot and booze work, but they also may affect your functionality outside of sleep

Trazodone was prescribed to me for sleep once, though at first it seemed an odd choice (Technically an Anti-depressant, not a sleeping pill, but it's one of the low-key, mellowing types, not an SSRI. Commonly used to treat sleep disturbances. Slight withdrawal, but nothing coming close to a hangover).
Worked pretty well for me, I suppose. Definitely see a doctor. Over the counter meds probably aren't going to help very much. It might take a bit before you get something that helps, but you'll find it.
