Identify the technique this website is using: RSS Content generation?

I?m wondering what type of technique the following website is using:

I see that they always use a short snippet of an article on another website and then link to it. They usually use very prestigious websites like theguardian.com or bbc.co.uk
Can you tell me what technique this website is using?
What are the benefits of this technique?
Is that possible, and if so can you guys point me to links to research more about this technique?
Looks like they are using some RSS feed maybe? To pull the snippet of information and then link to the main article?
Besides the ads I don?t see any keyword linking out or something of that sort.
I can confirm that site gets indexed on google pretty quick, but what is the benefit of it if there is no keyword linking to your main site?

If you are on wordpress, try plugin RSS Multi Importer and set feeds how you like. If you dont want to set each source one by one, you can use Google Alerts for specific keywords and set it to RSS feed, import that feed into RSS Multi Importer plugin and always have fresh news from many sources, google is sorting the best sources for you.
Also instead of fetching headlines only you can fetch full articles and publish them on your website, people will stay on your site longer... you can set script called Full-Text RSS( version 3.2 is easy to find elsewhere) and set it to fetch feed, that script is unpacking the full article, creating new feed link that you can import into RSS Multi Importer plugin and post automatically full articles from other sources.

I still don't understand what is the good with that. Wouldn't I just be created duplicated content that, most often, has already been indexed on another website?

Duplicated content is a mit, please spend some time here on bhw to catch some details. Also for "already indexed" - so what ? You need content, and you are providing it for your readers, same as your example website from the first post. Many articles are posted and reposted numerous times, syndicated through press release channels, through rss feeds, etc... If you need original texts, make them, write original content, you will not find it using rss feeds from another sites.
