So i'm doing some advertising right now for a website. I'm recieving 50% of sales made on conversions that I cause. How would the site owner even figure out if it was me who caused the sale?

Because you have a specific unique link that visitor goes through to the sales page.

Ask that site owner which tracking software he is using ?

You should use a tracking software and ask the site owner if he can place a postback for you or a pixel url, to track conversions.
