Here's a tip to "steal" link-juice from deleted social accounts or blogs! This is my first contribution to BHW, i hope you like it!
Here's how you do it:
1. Find a Social Site, Forum, or blogging platform.
I Picked Webspawner.com for this example (but there are hundred of sites that you can use this trick on.)
2. Inspect the most link-to-pages on this domain.
3. I use +SEOmoz 's Opensitexplorer for this. (You need a PRO-account, but luckily for you, do they offer 30 days free trial hxxp://seomoz.org/ )
4. Then you go to the "Top Pages"-report hxxp://bit.ly/J7Fa6C
5. Now you see the most link-to-pages on the domain. ( You can export this report and sort by 404's)
Here's whats next:
6. Find a page that is returning a 404 error (See the page in the button of this screenshot hxxp://yfrog.com/ode06wp). The 404-error is often caused by either a deactivtion of the account/user, a ban or a deleted user. We hope it's a deleted user, so we can claim his former username (and get his link-juice which is the whole point of this).
7. As you can tell by the URL that is returning a 404-error: hxxp://webspawner.com/users/eggformen/index.htm is his username "eggformen".
8. Now I'll try to register i new account on hxxp://webspawner.com and call myself "Eggformen" to see if it's possible to register and old username.
9. Anti-climax.. "Eggformen" is apperently their own username and therefor it's not possible..I'll look for the next 404-page..
10. I just found another page/user on their site, that is returning a 404 error: See screendump: hxxp://yfrog.com/kke2jyp - The username is "kaizenw75414".
11. Now I'll try (again
) to create a new user with the old username "kaizenw75414".
12. Success. I am now the happy owner of the blog hxxp://kaizenw75414.webspawner.com with over 200 linking root domains. Okay, the backlinks are a bit spammy, but still..
This Link Building tip works across soo many blog-networks and I you can really find some rare gems new and then!
Have fun!
