Homepage backlink building advice needed

I have an ecommerce store (not emd), where the homepage has "no use".
Google is ranking only category pages, and product pages for most of the keywords in my niche, and I havent seen ranking any other domains home page neither.

Back in days, I have used to build more and more links for category pages, and forgot about the homepage. I tought that maybe thats the reason I am having hard time ranking every time, I am setting up a new page. So I have created some 25-30 powerful backlinks for the homepage 2-3month ago, with url and brand anchors (Real, good sites + PBN too). But nothing sensible is happening for the existing keywords just the average jumping back-forth.

1. Is it possible that homepage backlinks are having no or just a very tiny effect on inner pages?

2. Does homepage link building makes any sense for google besides "OK, they will find your Brand... thanks" ? Because I am seeing no ranking effect for homepage backlinks in short period (2-4month) with both pbn, and whitehat links.

Because of your theme you are having this kind of issue. Would you mind telling us your CMS/Technology used to create your website so that we can better analyze and suggest you the solution.
second option: you may reindex your website using google webmaster. Try to do bit of off-page submission for your homepage also make some on-page changes to your homepage including title tags, description and content.
