    Good Day!

Alright, so I'm getting ready to redevelop and design one of our sites and this is the first time iv done this.

This site has great SERPS strong backlinks and decent PR. Its been around since 99 so its an elder.

My questions is; what is the most effective way to maintain its current Rankings when we move to a new Platform and design? Do we 301 redirect? I keep hearing that...

It would devastate us if we lost our rankings..

Any help would be much appreciated!!

    Thanks in advance to all~

I've done this a couple of times and didn't lose my SERP position in the process. I went from HTML to Wordpress, and I've done crappy HTML site to HTML site. Basically I did the change because it would make it easier to develop the site with Wordpress for future changes (I now prefer developing with WP).

I made sure the site was fully functional in Wordpress (or HTML) before I pointed the nameservers from the original to the new site; this way the transition is seamless.

Try to keep page URLs the same (if html), OR if using wordpress get a plugin that will allow you to 301 individual pages to the new page URLs (I had to do the latter because my pages originally had /pagename.html and the wordpress page would be /pagename/).

I used all the same content from the original pages and tried to keep the formatting tags (h1,h2,h3) the same. I also kept the header tags (title, description, kws) the same as well.

Thanks much for the feedback, This seems like what I "Think/Thought" as well, but its a scary space! haha You just never know until you try it you know. But we are indeed keeping all of the content and transferring everything over. So I'll have to keep my fingers crossed when we do it next month.

    Again, thanks!
