Help needed! Calling all BHW technical experts!

Hi everyone,
I know this isn't probably the best place to ask this, but I need those who are familiar with VPN's and physical hardware to help me... after all, this is a black hat community, right?! ;-)
As you all know, most people around the world had 1 or more lockdowns due to the Covid pandemic.
That meant that office workers had to punch their work time clock at home, via a VPN and a dedicated web client sofware.

Now that we’re all coming back to the offices, my employer in particular wants us not to use the virtual interface, but to use our fingertip at the physical terminal instead.

My question for you is if it’s possible for HR to know if you’re using the terminal or not in the backoffice, since the use of a dedicated VPN (for the virtual interface) shows you’re physically “at the office” by using its IP address. Is this correct?!

In my specific case, that would mean that even in the days I’m working at home, I’d need to go to the office just to put my fingertip… ridiculous! I’m so frustrated….

Does your office not have cameras?
I am pretty sure they do, I know I have requested IT some video footage of employees who attempted to pull that same bs you are trying to do in the past year

They do, but not pointing at the terminal.
In any case, while respecting your opinion, I don't think it's reasonable to make people come to the office while working at home just punch the time clock, don't you agree?!
My underlying question is if this is/isn't a sign that HR can't effectively track who's at home and who's physically at work... hence forcing everyone to do this.

It really depends on your country laws.
If it was where im at, its opens a huge can of worms at I dont want to deal with.
One again, to clarify, I only requested for the ones who I made come back to work at the office

Ok, that makes sense, but not for everyone, wouldn't you agree?!...
But my point is, can they trace the IP adress with the office VPN while I'm at home?

I mean, sort of this.

If you’re punching a time clock then I’m assuming you’re being paid hourly. If you’re wasting time having to go to the office for a dumb task like this then stick on a podcast and they’re paying for your time.

This seems like a bigger issue for them wasting money, not you.

problem is, they probably have different IPs between the VPN and office IP, and the VPN itself have the log data

Oh, I see...
I thought the VPN's and the office IP address was the same.
When I'm at home, I do my hours and log out, but I always have to virtually punch the time clock using the dedicated software... hence thinking that it could just show HR the check-in/out times.
