If I put up a picture of the day on my site as a separate post, but run the same copy for each post - will this pound me with Google? I know it sounds noobish with duplicate content, but I feel like my options are:
    1. Only write 10-20 words per picture
    2. Write general copy points and duplicate the text

This will actually get you a duplicate content penalty. Instead do this:

Build the webpage with the text you want til you get it right, view it with a browser, take a screenshot, then paste it into paint. Cut out the image AND the text, go to File>New (it will ask you if you want to save changes, say no) then paste the part you cut. Now you will have a photo with readable text, but since the text is actually part of the image SEs will not see it.

All you have to do then is re-size this image to the size you want and put the image on your web page. The effect will be the same as using text on the page along with the picture.

I know you could simply take a screenshot of the text and make it an image, then place both images on the page, but Google will consider the image with only text as hiding text on the page if they do a manual review. (The odds of this are very slim) If it is part of the picture then it is simply considered labeling, I guess.

The quality of this image will depend on your graphics card (what your monitor displays is irrelevant), but should suffice if you do not make a very large image or enlarge the image you create.

Be sure to use an accurate "alt" description of the image, it will benefit your seo, and you will draw traffic from Google Images as well.

This is also an cheap and easy way to create banner ads.

TIP: Create the original as large as possible, and shrink the final image to the size you need.

I really appreciate the advice and will give this a go.

Regarding some posts that I already have with the duped content, I understand that Penguin is penalizing pages with that. So my question to you is if I should delete those pages to help save the site as a whole or do you think that the site will be fine, those pages along will be penalized?

Also, will there be a penalty for having no copy at all?
