Sorry man but I've studied many e-commerce websites, who get around 10k organic visitors monthly + at least 10-20k followers on their Instagram, and a lot of them still haven't got the basics right :
- URL = H1 = TITLE >> This is probably the most common mistake I see.
- URLs fucked up by all the /category/ or /article/ and even /blog/post/ that the great majority of them still have in them.
- No META-DESCRIPTION on the majority of their pages.
- Blog tags pages indexed.
- Too many URLs indexed in general. (a lot of them even got the pages with parameters like ?color=, ?page= still indexed...)
- Site speed is shit, especially on mobile (and I'm not talking about only the homepage) >> Super common aswell
- ETC.
- ETC.
But after that I'm from France so maybe the guys out there are behind what you can see in USA, this I can't say.
Its the same old debate, what is worse, ecommerce websites and news wesites use same content and ranking without any problem
There are 2 thoughts although they are pretty much the same
First : google treat different types differently, so what is allowed in e- commerce isnt allowed for others . Same goes for news letter websites
Second : which I believe, rank factors are not set in a stone rules. Like there is no template for prefect score, and every page is compared to it
Instead, every keyword is different as the metrics are taken from top pages. So, you are compared to already ranking pages + other metrics depending on use experience decide who takes the first place.
So, if everyone is using same content for some keyword، then no one is better than other, and the algorithm start to look for other factors.
I am typing on mobile, but hope the idea is clear
