I was heavily affected in Aug2018 update (the memory is still very much alive).
In January 2019 I have regained most of the traffic back.
Haven't built much EAT as the update might suggest I was lacking.
Like I already mentioned in this thread sometimes ago - these updates have much to do with luck (unless you're doing some really obvious shady stuff). Sometimes you're just on the wrong side of the fine-tunning-knob.
EAT is snake oil that self-proclaimed SEO gurus will try to sell to you.
Of course you need some authority. But google can't deduct that from other than links in most of the cases. So - to get better rankings build more quality links.
Like in 2006. Not much has changed. The main difference is that Google has more CPU at hand now. AI is not even close to being usable, it doesn't exist.
