Google update again?!

No signs of recovery yet. Working on improving the content and authority of the website (links).

I cannot confirm that the update is related to the anchor text, as seen by @markb9876. All of my keywords were equally hit, no matter the % of anchor text.

I would love to say that my small traffic gains over the past week or so was due to some "rollback" or fix on google's side. But as we all know: correlation does not imply causation. The only thing I changed was a small tweak to link velocity. Even still, no conclusions can be drawn from that. Good luck to everyone :)
 
no recovery for me neither
yesterday was another update and I've further lost certain positions
I organically got few super strong links in the meantime which didn't help at all.
that's why I say this update has little to do with links.
I know few examples in the health niche (sites of friends and acquaintances) where they completely regained all
traffic over the last week.
one did a lot of changes focusing on E-A-T factors.
the other one didn't do anything
 
For me in a non english google its still very weird. Sometimes I get normal search results where I am in top 5 or so and half of the time, sometimes even after only 20 seconds after the last search, I do get completely else search results where I cant find my site at all (checked the top 100). Also the search results are total garbage in the second variant - on page 2 and onwards are results filled with websites in a foreign language that just happen to use the same word but it has a completely different meaning. It has been like that for 6 weeks now. What the hell is going on? Anyone experiencing the same issue? First I thought that it was a update in progress, but after so many weeks I dont really know whats going on.

I've seen this too. But not so much anymore. I've read people reporting the same as well.

Maybe it could be that if you search for "best fart machine" one time, and then do it once again 20 minutes later - Google remembers it, so they give you another result, as the question was "obviously" not answered/to your satisfaction before.

Just a thought
 
Hmm, but the problem persists even if I immediately open a new private tab. Also tried other computers outside of my home etc. and its 50:50 chance that I get those weird results. I am really confused about this. I was even thinking about sending a message to Google about this, but not sure if it would help at all. Plus the risk that they would manually look into the search results and the domains is quite high i think...

No recovery here either. Site is on constant traffic decline since August. Now I am lower in traffic than I was in 2014. Keywords still slipping lower day by day. Didn't do much changes to the site, made few outreaches to other bloggers and earned some links and no effect on rankings. Added lots of new content.
I am still puzzled as to how page10 results (which are beyond horrible and unrelated) still deserve better rankings than my site. I still think 1st august update was in fact a penalty (although google saying that they're now just ranking better underperforming sites. Really, sites on page 10 are under-performing? Seems that google SERP team never checks page 10 results?!).
I really don't know what to think of this.

Also, here's ranking for the same above keyword (posted on 28th October) and the situation today.

At least it seems it stabilized. But we will see what future holds. Probably more downsteps when google does its magic.

I hope healthline soon takes over all 10 results on first page (pardon, 18 results, 4 at the top and 4 at the bottom are sponsored).

I believe it's a penatly as well.

They have chopped down the search results even further for me. Some keywords only show 2-3 pages and at the bottom of page 2 there is articles and sites completely unrelated to the keyword. It's just big magazines, forums and even TV channels. I googled a few days ago for something about a kitchen tool and one of the results were about a TV channel for kids.. It's not even slightly related.

For one of my tanked sites I managed to get a link from one of the biggest online shops in my country. Their domain is strong and most affiliates link to them. They never link out to anything. But they linked out to me, in a niche that we both are in. The article they linked to doesn't even rank for me. Went from position 7 to n/a after August and their link came in after August. Instead you can find completely unrelated articles and sites in the SERP.

Feels like I complete waste of a very successfull outreach..

Gotta be some form of penatly and I'm yet to see a website recover from it.

How are VIPs still selling SEO services on here then, without complaints? I have seen different niches affected by this and don't think it's a YMYL/Medic update - but rather a general shitty update.
 
Not much effect in usual traffic this week. But there is a fluctuation as suddenly traffic is rising and falling on non usual time of the day.

I believe it's a penatly as well.

If it's a mass penalty, how are those offering SEO services not getting more complaints on their threads from their clients rankings dropping?

I googled a few days ago for something about a kitchen tool and one of the results were about a TV channel for kids.. It's not even slightly related.

Instead you can find completely unrelated articles and sites in the SERP.

Goes to show that this update affects more than those in YMYL niches or Medical-related niches - what many on this thread have guessed.

Hopefully you can see how my question relates to your experience - despite niche and what is being done with outreach/link-building - SEO rankings are tanking. Okay, I'm still not entirely sure how that relates to my quote.

What I'm saying is that my site most likely got penalized, so it didn't matter how good links I got - it didn't affect my rankings.

If someone sells links on BHW and nobody complains, umm, I guess that means the PBN is not penalized or that people don't care. It has nothing to do with what I said, so I haven't really reflected on why BHW sellers don't receive complaints.
 
I dont think its a penalty. But some other observation - the TOP 2-3 spots are quite solid recently, its the positions after those ones that are changing rapidly. At least for my keywords.

I had solid positions for many years and slowly climbed upwards. Now its very unstable. The most shitty part is that I had very few competitors and they were basically at place 30-50. After this update one of them is in place 2-5 depending on the time of the day. And he barely has any links, shitty website and its not even the main theme of his website. I dont get it and I hope that after some time he will be back to his place on page 2-5 soon.

Healthline ughh, every article on that site is 500-700 words of nothingness, the content on that site is not even worths scraping or plagiarizing.

Google is doing an awesome job "NOT", It will be interesting to see if there is any change in user search habits because I have heard from many friends and relatives who are often switching to other search options because Google is no longer delivering answers to simple queries.

I hope so, but I dont think its very likely. Even if the decline would start right now it would take perhaps 10 years till Google would loose the majority of search queries. They are basically a monopoly and they can do what they want. Also they are paying billions of dollars to many hardware and software firms like Mozilla, Apple etc. to make their search engine as the default one. That alone makes a big difference and hard to overcome without very deep pockets.
 
That's why we don't rely just on a Google traffic
Guys create more streams for your traffic not just Google ..... One update and your traffic. Gone!!
 
I noticed this update happened around the same time as this roll-out for Adwords: https://searchengineland.com/google...in-now-include-same-meaning-variations-305056

Now phase three is here.

On Thursday, Google announced another change to what are considered close variants of an exact match keyword to include variations that share the same meaning as the keyword, including implied words and paraphrases. The exact words are no longer the sole trigger for your ads to show on exact match keywords.

The key, says Google, is that the meaning and intent of the query match the keyword.
