Google update again?!

All I see from the results are from authority sites, like .gov, uni, and org, with boring article because too sciency

So if this update is now about who writes the content and what are their competences - what prevents me from googling for "best doctors in usa" :-D and use their credentials on my "about us" page and state that they review the content regularly.
What I'm getting at here is that this can be manipulated as well and I doubt that it can be that easy, so for sites not having authorship and not having a presentation page of who the authors are this can't have that much of an effect, can it? I still believe the update was about links, particularly in the YMYL niches.

I think E-A-T is part of it. IE, external authority factors such as the reputation of the author. Although people are saying their drops are mostly in secondary keywords. Same happened to me. I think mostly this is basically the long content update. Almost like an on-page in-body over-optimisation or keywords but actually more like when you were ranking for things just because you stuck the keyword on your page and in anchor texts for the sake of ranking. If that was you and you have lost secondary keywords then that was likely why.

Google has started to detect that more. You won't get bonus rankings just for mentioning the same thing over and over now on the page and in headings and mages or even if you mention them once in-context. That is not enough to rank for them now. They are being ignored more.

I have lost 500 top rankings for my homepage. I still rank for the main EMD and a few related keywords but I lost 50 positions in the top 5 about 20 at #1 and hundreds in top #100. 90% of my keywords and traffic.

If you want to get those keywords again you will need content relating to them properly and also external factors such as decent backlinks that suggest you deserve them.

I've had the exact opposite situation. Lost main kw's and still getting some long tail traffic. Overall lost 50% of visitors.

My case exactly. I've already pointed out that it seems strange to me that my "2 word" keyword lost ranking, but it's long tail variant with "4 words" didn't loose any traffic. By EAT rationale (having low expertise and authority) I could be giving bad advice for 2 word keyword just the same as I would for 4 word keyword, so where is the catch here? EAT might be a factor, but it certainly isn't a heavy one.

I'm the opposite. I run a health website, I have some credentials and E-A-T but I'm not a doctor. I've lost a lot of long tail keywords.

If you are losing rank for your main keywords and long-tails are fine then you either have over optimisation for the main ones or not enough relevancy. Repeating keywords doesnt seem to count anymore.

So you've lost ranking on long tails and maintained ranking on main keywords?

I am not stuffing keywords, I let the articles flow naturally.

What do you mean by relevancy? It's a health site, how much more relevant can it be? Should I create an EMD site for each of my keywords to make it look relevant? Do elaborate.

I lost my ranks too. I was sitting on #70
Added some web 2.0 links but only 11 of 40 pages are indexed.
You think i will come back again or game over? I invested much money on this site

I am not sure what is happening to you guys but I see my biggest competitors lost their ranking, instead I get on top 1 for 2 KW and in top 3 for 4 keywords.
There is a huge increase in my affiliate sales as well as a 20% increase in traffic.
I am not sure what kind of update is this, but it seems like Google is bumping up the articles with informative contents.

This gotta be the worst update I've seen from Google so far. Not only because I lost a ton of ranking (and money) - but also user experience.

I mainly work with .se (Sweden) and the same can be seen here as with .com.

The ones ranking at the top either have
- A small, outdated and crappy article
or
- A massive amount of bought links

The rest of us, with high quality content and a small or lesser amount of links got shot to the ground.

The big winner seem to be old domains and if they have a lot of bought links it's a big bonus
The big loser seem to be high quality and optimized articles on domains under 3 years old.

I realize now that writing your own content is a huge risk, compared to buying articles. The amount of work put into writing articles and then suddenly being blown off the face of the earth feels a bit wasted. Even if it made me some money before Google made me bend over. I rather lose money than time.

i guessed a long time back

becouse of all the bad news websites , that google is know doing proof reading .

in other words if your website niche is telling the truth and google can prove it via it bots and resources your get heighly indexed .

the only other thing I can see is that everybody shown randomly who deserve to be on page 1 .

all I can think of , i dont think it google making mistakes....

proof reading (( might be done manually , maybe that why everyone is indexed wrongly))..

i dont think free indexed websites have any power anymore with Google , i dont think there any correct order , your be placed were seen fit randomly .

I don't think as smart as you think you are with seo it mean anythink anymore google going with what it want shown randomly.

I don't think you can really say today indexing stats will be the same as tomorrow indexing stats , game has changed.

the world has changed , a lot of business are know going online or shutting down becouse of online business , this means there presure on google to show people what they want and try and cut the crap out.

so a registred shop that gone online from the street will have higher priority then a free submitted website even if there seo is crap , makes sence to me , or there be no economy.

also I think google so huge know that maybe we are all going to see website/ info from local ip location , so know indexing get ip locationised

only my opioion

so many street business from around the world are shutting doors and going online it scarry .

nearly all my local shops are just food all the rest have gone online.

I see empty shops every week , they just don't need a shop a website suit them better .

Repeating KWs, you mean this?

I've investigated that most affected websites were ones that require high authority to give answers/advices. Such as medicine, law, fnance etc... Its all about EAT and YMYL.

I don't think so. I checked some heavy finance keywords in my country and the high authority finance websites are rarely on the first 1-3 positions. They are getting "beat" by larger sites that has nothing to do with finance. For example there is a womens magazine with huge fonts and less than 1000 words in the article that ranks #1 on a really strong finance keyword.

Another #1 position on a heavy finance keyword is taken by a computers forum (!) where someone made a thread asking a simple question.

The more I research on this, the more I believe in my initial post. Everything that seem to matter is amount of backlinks and domain age.

A majority of top positions seem to have been taken by either domains with a huge backlink profile or articles that has been around for a long time, no matter their link profile. The articles are pure garbage and the only reason why I can see them ranking is because of domain/article age. Because they have a weak link profile that matches their weak articles.

Surely this update hurts user experience.

Probably those websites of weak link profile have other signs of authority/trust? Maybe huge Facebook profile\social traffic, or it is real business that have its office, real authors, real feedbacks in google+, citations and mentions on websites, (although without ******** link) etc. ?
