Google update again?!

Point no 1.
In my case I said over a month ago it is to do with anchor text percentages. My top keywords which had the higher percentages got hit, while the anchor text with lower did not.

Point no 2.
I keep a record of all links built with anchors. I check what is indexed in google on a weekly basis. What I have discovered now is that I did have 950 links going to one website, now indexed is around 600. A drop of 350 links thrown out.

So google have made a change on the types of links that it keeps in it's index now which would also contribute to a drop in rankings.
This also correlates to when you try and index links into Google, why it has become tougher, google does not accept those links.

So anchor text percentages altered and less links can certainly equal a drop in rankings.

Check to see how many links are indexed now and before.

Interesting theory, I think its anchor text too

Doesn't make sense - have completely white-hat clients who don't do any outreach for backlinks (they just want them to come naturally) - but they still got hit with practically no anchors in their backlink profile (minus internal linking)...
So what kind of service do you provide your client if they only want natural links that come to them without outreach?

Depends on the client and what their budget looks like. Do we offer outreach and PR services? Absolutely! But if the client wants a completely white-hat experience we focus on creating long-form comprehensive content that internally links to other pieces - here's a thread covering it https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/t...ranking-a--without-building-backlinks.748366/. In those cases we also try to build alliances with influencers in their spheres without directly asking for backlinks, and just let them come naturally - be it social media, site owners or media.

I also believe it's anchor text ratio. Pages those i linked most, those are drop in ranking.
I am using PBN links.

should i change anchor texts to brand anchors? or build more links to dilute anchor ratio?

coz disavow the PBN domains is not good idea.

Im not using pbn links

a lot of profile links and diversity bc i was a newbie back then. only 1 page dropped off google, still indexed

the rest of the site is fine

I don't think it's KW anchor linking, I think Google is changing the way results are formatted to match how users are now searching. Depending on the fact if your page is targetted towards a keyword or if it's targetting the users intent or answering the search question.

Gone are the days I've been searching for one word! I'm now typing in a sentence to find what I'm looking for and more and more results are coming up that match what I'm looking for compared to before I might have had to click all the way to page 3. Look and think about how you last searched.

The framework of how you create that page and link it internally around a focused keyword and then the page is structured to answer the questions, I think that's why tools like answerthepublic is going to become more popular and more of a focus moving into next year.

That's why I think there is a mix of people reporting success and disappointment this could be down to the content you have links coming from or what your topics/keyword and content length you might have in your PBN. I still think there is a place for KW anchor linking otherwise organic links from users posting on forums, blogs etc are going to be worth it because that's how "real" people have been taught to link.

Treating your page as a hub or knowledge base to answer that question or to be the focus around that KW is going to be key, linking to other related internal pages AND linking back as well as linking out to other articles is going to become the norm.

KW Anchors & Backlinks is going to have it's place but I don't think the weight they will carry to that page will be anything like it was before if your just proving a 500-700 word post around 1 short keyword!

In the last 6 months, this site has ONLY built exact match keywords. Literally, backlink after backlink, an exact match.

I still have a #2-3 ranking for a 201k kw site holding its position with the same links that my site got deranked from. The new owner still have a shit ton of traffic daily

its an EMD, anchor text is mostly EMD.co and EMD

not all sites got hit

To anyone who got fucked by google last weekend, did you check if your URLs are still indexed? For some reason hundreds of my site's pages got deindexed thinking they're duplicates and google selected a completely irrelevant canonical URL. The error message I'm getting in search console is Duplicate, submitted URL not selected as canonical

Since this update began, it's become harder to index backlinks and at the same time google are throwing out lots of backlinks from it's index. This would explain lots of ranking changes.
1 of my websites recently went from around 950 links indexed to below 600.

Yup. from 1,3k backlinks I went below 700.

Are some of your backlinks coming from general news type blogs / unofficial sources that might post political content. I'm sure there was a bit of news before the updates started back in Nov that google where going to start to either remove links that contain "fake news" or what they class it to be but also some bias towards anything that had a different political opinion to google. I can't find the news post now.

But I'm sure out of the two the "fake news" thing is a real push they are trying to eliminate so if you have some backlinks coming from some mixed sources this might be a cause of the backlink drop maybe..

one of my sites has suddenly improved a lot since around dec 15th... another one got killed a month and a half ago. who knows whats next

I think I am going to kill myself :)

I have the strongest link profile and best content in my industry. And yet, some lucky cocksuckers are in first page, me on the other hand on 3-5 th pages.

I also implemented negative SEO to my enemies. It didn’t help. But I got a few links to one of my pages, it disappeared. Fuck this.

The strongest link profile is one that ranks your site. If you have the best content and are on page 3-5, then your link profile isn’t as strong as your competitors.

If your pages are disappearing from serps when you add links you are probably getting algorithmic penalties of some kind.

Don’t try to negative SEO people, it’s really messed up. It’s also not that easy since even if you do it properly they can just disavow the links.

This thread kind of lost its purpose. It has nothing to do with medic update anymore.

Yeah, you made a thread about that and got laughed at. Righteously. Maybe SEO is not for you.

I'm aware of a medical website with very poor content quality that is all fluff and provides little value when reading, poor back link profile(or what we previously thought was poor), and very little in the way of professional doctor opinion in their posts.

They have been absolutely demolished and justifiably so, I believe the traffic drop won't stop until 0. It's apparent to me that was Google's intention, now they just need to workout how to separate the good from bad tweaking the algo.

What we need to understand when I read comments like "I've been first for years" is that on the flip side here this company has too been first for years but Google accepted that they got that wrong and are now trying to correct it...food for thought.

If I was in this industry I wouldn't have one single post that didn't have multiple scientific/medical references google can check upon, and a doctors citation that google knows too. It's almost certain that anyone geniune that's been hammered has been grouped with the website above, now workout how to distinguish yourselves from them before it's too late.
