Google releasing a large update today

Lost many positions for keywords yesterday, been holding some for 1+ year on top. What is ridiculous some websites old 20 days with 3 backlinks are higher than me now. I drop to #3 or #4 they are #1. I don't know if there is any point in building links, adding content.. when sooner or later you will lose positions no matter what you do they just rotate results.

Just to add more and more youtube videos show at top for many search queries.

This drop looks a lot like the one that happened in the last September's update. My website dropped for no apparent reason, then bounced back in January. Been growing ever since and now boom, 50% down. Doesn't make any sense...

I've had the exact same pattern. Unfortunately, 35% down the past 3 days(-2M monthly unique visitors), hopefully, it doesn't become worse.

So it's happening, my medical site dropped rankings by 3-10 on keywords I've been tracking, also e-commerce site tanked a lot... I just hope it's dance and that I am going to recover...

Google has a long history of famous algorithm updates, search index changes and refreshes.

I noticed positive movement on couple projects today:

Hoping for the best.

Exactly this!

i have 3yo website with 40 strong PBN self made links which was ranked on 1st page until yesterday.
Now it’s moved on page 7 , and on 1st page are some shitty parasite pages and some fresh new sites 10 days old. This is rediculous.

This is EXACTLY what's happening to my websites also.

I'd love to know its impact on money sites with little to no BUILT backlinks

I think this update is related to age and backlinks.

My older sites with a large backlink profile are largely unaffected. A few changes here and there but traffic is stable.

My newer websites under 18 months with no link building are decimated. I'm seeing massive drops across the board for all of them.

Could be an update of the fresh index. The old index may have been less affected.

I have some YMYL sites and the April update boosted my traffic 3x. This update, however, didn't do anything, it's all the same for me, at least for now.
All I noticed yesterday was a decrease in traffic for a few hours and then it jumped up again.

My articles are on average 2k words long but the main ones are all over 3.5k. I quote a lot of studies and do a lot of research. Content is king.
Question to those who were hit: Did you have affiliate links on your site?
Mine did have it. And some of my sites without affiliate links didn't get affected so far.

My site which has Amazon affiliate links on all most all my pages lost over 60% traffic after January update, recovered 20%, but has already lost 37% with May update. Overall, it's a steady decline.

But surprisingly, my other newer site with lots of affiliate links spiked 30%. Mind you, I haven't built any link to any of these sites except a handful of links I got from some authority sites.

Even more surprising, is that the older site has more contents with more than 500 words on average, while the newer site has thin contents.

Google don't care about the user's, they care more about the money.

It's best to just keep doing what you're doing, and diversify. Video seema to be more profitable these days.

I have a couple of websites targeting the same keywords. Quality content and backlinks for site #1 and below-average content and no link building is done for site #2. Both were ranked on page 1 and got penalized in the December update.

Site #1 is nowhere in SERPs as of now. Site #2 recovered automatically after a month at the January end and now with today's update ranking got improved further, 50% increase in traffic without any effort from my end. The interesting thing is site #1 is non-emd and site #2 is emd.

This perfectly describes my case. Newer site less than a year old is doing so well, but old site losing so badly.

This is by far the most ridiculous update since 2012, waiting for the death dance to stop in a couple of days like a kid waiting for his birthday cake.

Quite a few of my old sites that have been stagnant and somewhere nowhere to be found in the google abyss have made a leap up in rankings.
Found several of them on page 1 and a few even pos 1..... here’s hoping it’s not just a short lived anomaly.
these sites used to outperform the competition hands down until one day they all just fell off the end of the earth.

yes, same here.

Got hit in May 2018
Recovered in March 2019
Got hit again in September 2019
Recovered in January 2020
Got hit in May 2020 again

Medical...The page has backlinks everybody would dream of. No linkbuilding. Many EDU links, newspaper, very popular. Build in 2000. UGC Site with decent Ads (not above the fold). A other site of our company has made the same jumps as our primary page. Same great links, less ads, UGC. We got ouranked by websites that doestn have our keywords on the page. its all about keyword synonyms, weight of links, ads. We will remove all the ads now on the second domain to check if this makes a different. But without ads its also worthless. We will do this just to know if this is ad related, because what we see here is, that UGC pages before us, has only a few links, no mobile page, slower page speed, ugly design but nonprofit (no ads)....

I am in the business since 2002 / 2003 and yes, this is the most ridiclous update I can think of. On previous updates some of our pages got down, some up..but now, everything is going down. My worst case scenarios were still to good...and this during corona.

One of my sites got absolutely hammered today. Organic traffic down 60%.
Clean backlink profile, nothing blackhat. This site has been ranking consistently for 5+ years with no real hiccups, so I'm pretty damn devastated right now.
