Google releasing a large update today

I've lost about 30% of my traffic already. I didn't even know what is going on until i found that there's a Google update again..

I've just had a look at one of my niches and I've went from #8 to #46. No links have been built to that page by me. The links that have been built are ones that other sites have mentioned me in. These sites aren't spammy ones.

In my sites place for that keyword, there's a top ten page with Amazon links and a photo. That's it. Content update my arse.

Doesn't it indicate that you run a rat race?
You buy "strong links" spending (or wasting?) money, to enjoy a short term gain, just to falldown again, and spend (waste) money again. The race goes on...

Maybe you should reconsider your strategy (unless of course you make enough money during those spikes to cover for the expenses and make a decent profit)
Not wasting at all. I always make good ROI when I buy links, even with this specific site as my monthly income tripled. It was just funny that the links started taking affect just as a new update rolled out. The site is still making more than it was before the update, thanks to the links (as not all keywords dropped).

that could be a great case study..

1. what tye of links you bought?
2. what were the metrics of the link?
3. were they genera or niche related
etc

Well there's too many factors in play here. You'd need a lot more sites competing for the same keyword to do a good test. I do have 4 sites ranking in this exact niche, so I might be able to do case studies in the future (I've thought about it).

As always update did good for me :) (3rd update in a row which ended with a spike on traffic)

My main moneysite just tanked from page 1 to page 7.

I was wondering why for last few hours in my bed, checking everything. No any manual actions or security issues. Then got up, started my PC, went here and saw this thread.

Now I know why. F**king update :suspicious:

Man, I lost 50% of my traffic so far. Literally lost all of my featured snippets. This is not good.

Ouch. Pet website is being hit hard. No linkbuilding, just content. Survived every update until this point:

My other websites, Home Care, Outdoors, Music and Sports Equipment are so far largely unaffected.

Question to those who were hit: Did you have affiliate links on your site?
Mine did have it. And some of my sites without affiliate links didn't get affected so far.

Not bad mate, got any pearls of wisdom you could share on how to avoid being affected by the update?

I also fell in the rating, now I need to look deeper and remove the errors again. I just read that Google released an update https://www.seoquake.com/blog/google-core-algorithm-update-may-2020/ , they say that changing the rating is quite normal.

I think Google should shut their search engine and list the organic results in Youtube at the end of videos.
What's the point in filling the organic search results page with all those videos. I don't get it.
They obviously make more ad $ if someone clicks a video instead of a search result, even if the search result includes AdSense. I wouldn't be surprised if Google started penalizing all sites NOT using AdSense at this point...

Same. Their YouTube algorithm already does this to some extent I think. Non-monetized videos are much less likely to get recommended.

I thought non-monetized videos still have ads? Just that the content creator doesn't get any money for them. If it's still like that, it should rather be the other way around.
