Google releasing a large update today

many often report increase in traffic but no increase in ranking. how is this possible?

YouTube videos now rank higher. Can sometimes find multiple on page one. This update is such a mess.

As I see it, a "broad core update" is like a complete restructuring of their positions index based on a new or updated algorithm (or even the same old algorithm, but it just refreshes the sites).

Imagine you are building a puzzle with many pieces. From time to time you rearrange the pieces one by one.

But during a "broad core update", you break the puzzle completely, and put everything together again.

This is why you are seeing newly built sites popping up on top. And just because your site didn't fit in the puzzle yet, doesn't mean you lost all your rankings. Give it another week, and then start analyzing and fixing.

Personally, the updated started on Saturday for me - my traffic jumped +30%, then yesterday my traffic fell while my AHREFS rankings increased (must be some a/b testing), today my traffic fell even more to below what it was before the initial update. I can't conclude anything yet...

Indeed. I have been told that many sites with completely blank link profile and no content whatsoever are ranking well. But its not like that these rankings are permanent, they appear & then they disappear after a few hours. These fluctuations are happening several times a day.

Changes in secondary and long-tail keyword rankings?

Not sure about others but so far I've been only measuring my primary keywords.
 
-60% traffic here. pretty devastating, hope it's just GDance but i doubt it.
 
This is a joke. Went from 800-1k visits daily to 100-200. No change in rankings. How?
 
Wait for the Google search console data to come in, you should see whats went wrong with rank changes and increases in traffic.

One of my clients sites has improved for all buying keywords but traffic is down, I suspect long tails to blog posts have been lost.
 
In addition to all that, new content is not indexing for the 3d day in a row, and another new article that indexed 3 days ago is not seen anywhere, it's below 100. WTF?
I hope this all settles eventually.

My newer websites under 18 months with no link building are decimated. I'm seeing massive drops across the board for all of them.

All sites use the same theme, interlinking strategy, plugins etc.

Same here mate. Posted 3 artcles on the website. No place where I can found them.

The traffic has fallen off the cliff the last two days for this page. But the average position has remained steady. The traffic per day for this keyword was about 400 impressions with 6 clicks per day.

Searching the main keyword:

35% drop in impressions for a small decrease in Avg Position (regardless of 0 clicks)
 
check who rank before u, if some brand, ranked more positions, whe n u have a recognized brand before u, usually they suck more clicks, than usual

Serps are really all over the place... My sites with no backlinks built stayed in more or less same placements... the sites with heavy high quality links places in articles dropped...
