What kind of links?
I had web 2.0, public directories, forum profiles and pbn. These are all whitehat and seemed like they would have lasted, obviously apart from the pbn lol.

He has purchased a package from one of the most popular SEO's on this forum. He has no PBN links or anything we would consider to be too risky. As shown in ahrefs his rankings were climbing and then took a shit on september 1st / 2nd.

Today i was also hit to one of my websites.
I had bought a package from here and all these keywords had a -40 spots drop. The package was delivered 20 days ago.
Main kws are still strong and only the new ones had this fall.
Still it is too early to see if it is a google dance or a manual penalty.

OP, most likely your are buying an existing database or using an API (in other cases crawling) to generate websites with 100s of thousands of pages (for sure you apply some customisations trying to make them as unique as possible), the more pages you get in Google index the higher is your chance to receive search engines traffic
Doing this with websites that have low authority is not risk free, give it few more weeks if your rankings do not comeback start over but try this time to improve upon your previous experience

I just made a basic php script that crawls some websites for the links no movie info is taken from those sites. All movie and tv info is taken from imdb and/or tmdb

Your posts probably rolled off the PBN homepage you bought. I wouldn't trust any of PBNs here with my money sites, that's probably what happened.
Buy another package and your rankings will return for a month until the posts are rolled off homepage again
