Could be that you being fine 'all this time' just means that Google's algorithms hadn't flagged you for anything spammy/copywrity/etc and this 'sudden' drop is them just finally clicking it on.

If it were me, I'd take a deeep breath and give it a few days. It sounds systemic, but there are a lot of unknown unknowns out there. After that, try to find the most recent backlinks pointing to your site (did you get a report from services purchased on BHW?) and assess their potential for negative impact.

Check new links, your competition may have just blasted a lot of bs new links your way (it does happen)

I have had sites rank page 2-3 for keywords, drop OFF the top 100, and then come page page 1-2. Given, that's for specific pages and not a site-wide phenomena.

Still sucks though, I'm imagining that you have some programmatic method by which you find/get/post content to that site (you said 400K indexed pages) ?

Another option would be to just transfer the content to another domain, and try and 301 the links you know aren't penalizing you to your new domain. Something that I've found helpful is the purchasing of expiring domains that still register as being quite old. Since the metrics don't need to be PBN level, you can usually find one with a sem-relevant name for < $20. Obviously, if you're trying to use the keyword in your domain name this doesn't work (unless you get reeeally lucky)

Anyway, good luck. Hope it's just something odd that resolves itself.

EDIT:
Also, if you go the route of content transfer, you could probably just 301 your entire old domain to the new one. The 'juice' gets passed, but G sees it as a single link. Doubt they'd penalize you for a single link.

Yes you're right about the crawler that gets links from other sites.
As a said before I previously tried the 301 method on my old site last year, it seemed to work for the first week and I got all my traffic and more back but a week later it was gone to shit again!
I just hope its not the same thing as what happened last year with the other site.
I really should of done a jv with someone that knows SEO. I have no idea which backlinks are good safe and which are harmful, which to disavow and which to keep.

A.) Video sites surely must be high risk for penalties. You best approach for SERP ranking would be to accommodate a short life-cycle for you sites. Churn and burn if you would... Best bet would probably be SMM and loyal viewers.
B.) Disavowing links is a bitch, and still I don't think 100% guaranteed to fix things.
C.) Imagine submitting a re-consideration request to Google that sounds like "I've submitted disavows for my spam links, please reconsider my DMCA-infringing site."

no videos are hosted. either its linked to or a iframe.
funny thing is most videos are hosted on google servers.

short term no a good idea. There are many sites similar that succeed for much longer. There are sites that have been going for 3+ years with still top spaces in google.

It could be a google dance. Has this ever happened to your site before though?

Well, honestly man it's hard to give you much more without more specific information. One of those cases—the more you're willing to give the more you'll get

I'm just gonna give it another few days like most of you recommended. If I still don't get my ranking back after that I am going to start with a new domain and probably try do jv with someone that really understands SEO.

probably best riding this out. Buying a new domain could be a waste of time at this point

well it looks worse now. The first day I still had a few that were on page 5 or further now I have only 1 keyword ranking which is my website name. This really sucks! I don't suppose google dance removes all your rankings and then returns?
and index status has gone up from 390k to 410k weird

Thin content with little or no added value, it took me about 24 hours to receive that though.

well my search analytics is behind 5 days its still showing the 5th of September search analytics so I should be receiving mine tomorrow or next day if that's how it works :?

Actually it just updated the analytics for 6th and 7th and I see no manual action
