Google Bot Fooled!?!

Hi all,
This is Vinod from India.

As far as I know about SEO, Google crawls a webpage and updates its respective SERP snippet, only when there is a visible content update on that webpage. Right?

But, a coupon/offers website from India seems to have cracked that.

Coupon pages of that website invites Google bot frequently, and this bot without any single visible content update, updates the 'LAST UPDATED/MODIFIED TIME' on snippet for that page, for every HOUR... How is that possible?

My exact concern is regarding the "Last Updated Time" of a webpage updated on Google Snippets.



http://promocodeclub.com/ is the coupon website that ranks on top for all their target pages.
Check this URL:http://promocodeclub.com/freecharge-promo-code-and-coupons/
This page gets crawled by Google for every 50 mins to an Hour;

You wouldn't find any visible content change on that particular page, nor Google.
But still Google crawls and updates the "Last Modified Time" of that freecharge page on the corresponding SERP snippet.

I have checked everything on that page including Comments, commentators, offers count and Coupons, Structured Data, XML Sitemap...etc. No use.

Instructions to Follow:

• 1.Search http://promocodeclub.com/freecharge-promo-code-and-coupons/ on Google.co.in
• 2. Note the "Last Update Time" on Snippet, would be in seconds!
• 3. Open http://promocodeclub.com/freecharge-promo-code-and-coupons/ in a new tab and study the content
• 4. Leave that page open until further update on Google Snippet
• 5. After 50 mins or 1 hr, again search http://promocodeclub.com/freecharge-promo-code-and-coupons/ on Google
• 6. The "Last Update Time" would have been updated
• 7. Now open that page on New Tab
• 8. Compare the previously opened freecharge page with the recently opened page
• 9. You would be shocked to find no changes, yet Google was able to find changes

As far as I examined, I couldn't find any updated on Content side of the webpage. Its not just that page, any coupon webpage of Post type enjoys this Luxury.

I am not good in coding..
could u explain it in a way that someone weak in coding could understand...

Nope, this is wrong. The crawl rate is based on the number of mentions (read new links) of the particular resource.
People share that page on Google+ to get the coupon, and the bot crawls it often.

That's not true..I'm ranking good for the same keyword and I do have over 12,000+ G+ & shares but bot doesn't seem to be crawling my page often.

I think these guys are playing with Crawl rates (via webmaster tools) & will get penalize for sure.

The guy is using post meta data section to change the post published and modified time , not visible on the post , See the meta tags & then using yoast to submit the xml sitemap to google every hour or so for this post and its category.

Well, do people keep sharing your page? Or its 12000 old shares that no longer grow in number?
