As the title suggests, I have a shopify ecommerce store that somehow has lost all its titles and descriptions from every page. It looks like it's been like this for about 2 weeks.

What's the best course of action here, how do I add these all back quickly whilst maintaining the original title and description texts please?

Also, what will the effects be on google etc serps now and ongoing, and how to minimise it.

What a day :( thanks all

I'm not sure I understand the question.

Do you mean that you've lost the titles you've set and the meta description in the search results?

Or that the page in question has changed? Let me know and I should be able to help out, I've built out loads of sites with Shopify.

Was the store hacked or did you change settings?

@Sweely and @MisterF . Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the confusion,

All of the titles and meta descriptions have disappeared from every single page on the store itself. I hadn't thought if it had been hacked actually misterf.

The store owner had used lots of apps at some point and after being removed they left lots of code in the theme.liquid files so I had to clean all that up ( it was really bad practice and unscrupulous from some of these app makers ). When I cleaned some of their old code perhaps they took it with it? Ehqtvare the options of that for you think ?

In shopify admin dashboard, there is a section called preference that you can set the home page meta / title etc, and this is still in place and showing in the dashboard. I even cleared it, resaved, added it and saved agaun and it still shows as not there when using something like screaming frog or any other tool.

I'm not sure if this would work go to your theme.liquid
Click on older versions beside it
jewik.PNG

it would show "Current" like the picture
Take it back to 2 weeks ago (I try to click on current and snipe it to show you but its sniping)
Save and check

It might work and it might not work but when i had problem like what you have this is what i did and it worked

Thanks man, I'll see if I can compare the 2 versions. The site has had lots of new products and changes to speed it up recently so hopefully it wasn't anything we've done, in fact I'm sure it's not but you never know lol.

If the meta / titles has been missing for say 4 weeks, what will the impact be on google now and in the future be do you think?

Again, thanks for the help it's really appreciated

Worst case, maybe apply a new theme to see if that solves your problem?

You can never tell the impact due to Google funny updates
I hope it worked out

Thanks, and that's a good point. It's one if the reasons I didn't realise something major was wrong, i saw big losses in kw amounts on semrush exactly at the time of this month algo update, so thought it was that. My school boy error I will try not to ever make again
