topic clusters always, internal links only when I'm in mood, sometimes I leave them for right before when the site goes live...

I usually plan topic clusters and internal links before publishing content it helps keep the site organized and makes it easier to build topical relevance from the start
that said as the blog grows i also review and add new internal links where they make sense

Yes, I do create the topic Clusters with a priority content calendar with internal links, anchor, and slug. Before the AI, it took so much time, but with AI, it can be easier.
 
I usually map out clusters in a scrappy doc before kicking things off but I never hit publish with every link planned out. Sometimes I just wing it and sprinkle in internal links as posts start piling up. Feels a bit like laying train tracks while the train is already rolling but in 2026, flexibility wins as much as tidy spreadsheets do.

Plan the main topic first, then build the cluster as the blog grows. It feels more flexible that way.
 
I prefer planning both topical cluster and internal links before publishing. It makes content creation much easier and helps build a stronger internal linking structure from the starting. You can always expand the clusters later, but having a plan upfront saves a lot of work.
