Do SEOs Need Prompt Engineering Skills Now?

I think basic AI usage is enough to start, but good prompt skills can definitely give an SEO an advantage
Yes, I agree. I think good prompt skills can make a noticeable difference, especially when you are using AI regularly for SEO.

Knowing how to give the right context and instructions can save a lot of time.

I don’t think SEOs need to become prompt engineers. For me, the useful part is knowing how to give AI enough context and then checking the output properly. The SEO knowledge still comes first.

Honestly, I think it's just another thing to learn if you have the time, but most of us get by with basic queries just fine. The tools are getting smarter anyway, so it might not be a must-have skill just yet.

Has anyone here actually learned prompt engineering specifically for SEO and noticed a real difference? I’d be interested to hear what changed in your workflow or results before vs. after learning it—especially in terms of time saved, output quality, or accuracy.

not full on prompt engineering imo, but knowing how to give good context definitely helps. i noticed way better content briefs from AI once i started feeding it actual competitor data instead of just a vague topic

SEO tools are becoming much more AI-focused, and I think the way we work with them is changing too.

Knowing SEO is one thing, but getting useful results from AI can depend a lot on how you ask the question and what context you provide.

This makes me wonder if prompt engineering is slowly becoming another useful skill for SEOs, similar to knowing how to use tools like Search Console or Semrush.
my view of the helpful skill is the ability to frame the problem effectively nd not learning prompts. once the SEO is aware of the search intent, the competition nd the data they have then they should be able to get good results using ai. hence i would learn some basic prompts but still SEO knowlledge comes first.

the keys to generating valuable seo related output from an AI was not in creating intricate prompts rather it was all about knowing what information is lacking for the AI and then giving it the right query.

Prompt skill matters less than knowing what to check when it comes back, spent a while writing rules for a content pipeline and the ones that held named the shape of the mistake rather than listing example phrases, because it just finds a new phrase and walks past your list.

I think prompt skills are becoming useful for SEOs, especially when using AI for research and content tasks.
It’s more about asking better questions than becoming a full-time prompt engineer.
