Do SEOs Need Prompt Engineering Skills Now?

SEO tools are becoming much more AI-focused, and I think the way we work with them is changing too.

Knowing SEO is one thing, but getting useful results from AI can depend a lot on how you ask the question and what context you provide.

This makes me wonder if prompt engineering is slowly becoming another useful skill for SEOs, similar to knowing how to use tools like Search Console or Semrush.
I think basic AI usage is enough to start, but good prompt skills can definitely give an SEO an advantage

Yes, I agree. I think good prompt skills can make a noticeable difference, especially when you are using AI regularly for SEO.

Knowing how to give the right context and instructions can save a lot of time.

I think it is becoming useful but I wouldn’t put it in the same category as understanding Search Console or technical SEO yet

The bigger skill is knowing what information the AI actually needs before asking it anything

For example instead of asking AI to find keywords I’d give it the current rankings the target audience the existing pages and the SERP data and then ask it to find gaps or patterns

A good SEO can get much more out of the same AI tool simply because they know what to give it and how to question the output

So I see prompt skills becoming useful but SEO judgment still matters much more than writing the perfect prompt
