Do i need backlinks for my website in 2026

You still need backlinks in 2026. Ads can bring traffic fast, but they don’t build long term rankings. Backlinks help trust and visibility over time. The best setup is using ads for early traction while building links slowly in the background.

Short answer: you usually need both.

Backlinks will still matter in 2026. They help with long term rankings, trust, and stable organic traffic. If you want results that last and don’t disappear when you stop paying, SEO and links are important.

Ads are great if you need fast traffic, testing, or quick sales. But once you stop spending, the traffic stops too.

Best approach for most sites:
  • Use ads for quick wins and data
  • Build quality content and backlinks for long term growth
If the budget is limited, focus on SEO first. If you want speed, run ads while building links in the background. :)
This is what im going to do in the future building quality backlinks for long term and run some ads to give my website a good reputation from social media

Ads do not help you rank organically.

Guest posts are not worth more than $100. Don’t over pay especially for crap domains with spam anchors incoming. Don’t pay anything.

Yes, you still need backlinks in 2026. Ads bring instant traffic, but rankings and trust come from quality backlinks content.

The product you're selling, or better yet, what sort of business model you're using, is what differentiates these two channels from one-another. Paid advertising brings quick results at a higher price, though the timeframe is shorter. Whereas for SEO, there will be a trickledown effect, but once you've built the necessary authority, speed should pick up and you'll find easier to break into first page positions.

Learn more about both SEO and PPC - BHW is a great resource for starting out. Build a concrete mental plan before spending a $, because it's fairly easy for both to drown the budget without producing any sort of meaningful visibility.

ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND: For Paid, targeting is key and tracking is essential. SEO - content quality, good technicals and references (links, mentions, social campaigns, expertise highlight etc) will bring you out of the dead zone (page 2 and beyond).

In 2026, you need both backlinks for long-term growth, and advertising for quick traffic/sales; it's best to balance according to your budget and goals.

Backlinks build authority and resilience, while ads buy speed and data. The mix should change as your budget and stage change.

Backlinks are still important in 2026 for organic SEO and long-term authority, while ads can drive quick traffic. The best approach is usually a mix: focus on quality backlinks for lasting rankings and use ads to get immediate visibility and conversions.

This is true, backlinks build lasting SEO strength, and ads handle the short-term traffic. A balanced strategy gets the best results over time.

I dont understand your reply, what you mean with mixed up ?!!
Two weeks ago, you were asking if you need to build backlinks for your site or use ads. An obvious noob question.

Then, in the same thread -- a little under 2 weeks afterward -- you drop these gems (which are obvious AI slop): "Backlinks build authority and resilience, while ads buy speed and data. The mix should change as your budget and stage change." & "This is true, backlinks build lasting SEO strength, and ads handle the short-term traffic. A balanced strategy gets the best results over time." as though you've been doing SEO for years. Either you were experimenting with AI, or got your accounts mixed up. :-)

Yeeah i understand, i spent like 2k on ads without any results thats why i think now to build good backlinks for my website..

Building backlinks for a website is beneficial, but only when they come from relevant sites.
Absolutely, relevance matters far more than volume when it comes to backlinks.

There will be more requirements for backlinks in 2026. Some of them will no longer work as before. Google is adding more and more factors and controls.

Therefore, my opinion is that backlinks still work, but not all of them. There will be fewer ones that really work, and they will be harder to get.

However, if you are involved in black hat SEO, things may be different.

In 2026, you still need quality backlinks for strong SEO, as they signal authority and trust.
