Hey ,

So I have a YouTube Channel, specializing on Shorts. As most of you know, YouTube automatically picks a Thumbnail.

Since I want to optimize my thumbnail, I first upload my video and publish it for 30 seconds just to check what Thumbnail I get, then I set it on private again. If I’m not happy with the thumbnail (usually the Case), I will delete the video and re-upload a new video where I correct the point of the video with a nice thumbnail.

Did this practice ruin my channel?

I’ve been doing that a couple times the past few days and I’ve noticed that my videos stopped getting recommended and now I’m worried.

I’m asking strictly on the effect on the algorithm/my channel ranking. Did I screw myself with this? That would be really depressing.. and can my channel recover from this or will I have to create a new channel?

Thanks for the feedback. I didnt wait so perhaps that contributed to the problem.

How much views you were getting earlier?

I was getting between 400 - 8000 views on average. Started 1st of January and have a pretty good niche.
Do you guys think my channel can recover from this or will I have to consider starting a new channel?

New channel you have to start now.

Youtube doesn't like video deletion at all. more than 3 videos deleted in a short time immediately pulls the rank of channels to the bottom, kills subscribers, that is, stops the channel's interaction, your new videos will not be viewed.

The channel would recover if you keep uploading but not sure how long it will take maybe a month or two.

Shorts Algorithm is so random and sometime videos go viral and sometime gets much less views.

FYI, when you upload a short, it picks the exact middle of the video to extract the clip. An easy way to get the thumbnail you want is to have a static picture play for around 1s near the middle.

It is random, sometimes it will sometimes not, safe would be not doing this but it is low chance to kill it when doing it i think

Why don't you just edit the thumbnail only instead of uploading whole video ?

i guess this is a lesson to be learned: be confident that your video is complete and ready for public consumption before uploading.
