Copyright issues can occur. But, yes spun the articles to unreadable and unique. Then, you may rank for a bit of time with ease.

Yes if 2 external links are from sites like Huffingtonpost or The New York Time.

Ranking copied content is possible, high quality links work well.

Duplicate content issues would be the least of your problems if the other person finds out and decides to pursue legal actions over the stolen content.

Want to reach the top with the help of stolen articles from Google, I think it is quite impossible. Within a few days your website will be penalized I must say that.

To be fair this is what I do although I do give credit for the article to the author. To the OP, it can still rank as far as I'm aware but it would be harder to rank higher as they published it first. (Please correct me if I'm wrong this is just my understanding)

Think of it as you made a site using copied(stolen) content and some how you managed to rank it on google but somehow google will find out and remove your site from the face of earth how would you feel about that? let me guess not so good aye? then why waste all your time and efforts on something which will not last long. My suggestion is to atleast rewrite the content before you post that on your site.

Stolen article will not reward you but definitely punish you. Google will put you in prison and penalize you because Google only loves Genuine and Natural working.

Why not hire a writer here on BHW? Some of them are really cheap. I was looking for a writer here on BHW and I got an offer from a writer who charges $1.5 per 500 words - I can give you a contact on him if you want.
