I don't know a free tool. Sorry! I'm using DeepL for translations and a custom script for posting. My script won't help you, because I'm not using Wordpress.
You can rank translated content successfully.Google is all powerful my friend. Nowhere to hide from Him.

As you said it's edited and plagiarism passed content, there is no issue with the translated content.
But Google may have a clue to find almost every page has content that is translated, I don't know the effect on your site.
I suggest not using the Google tool to translate the content if you are already doing this.
Else, you can go with it. Best of luck.

Google is struggling to identify AI content, let alone translated content. But the translated content needs to make sense grammatically. If you're going to use a tool for that the translation won't be as perfect.

Translated content needs adjustments. I would translate content, then run some machine learning fixes on it, then read and edit manually. Some paragraphs make absolutely no sense when translated. Plus while editing, add some extra value which is producing new content. This will always work. Every company running bilingual websites does that and they do well. Try to not translate English content as that content was translated or will be translated by someone else. Find a single language website in German or Russian and do your work.

Yes. Google can identify content that has been translated, Google is one of the most advanced search engine in the world.
It knows everything about every word on earth, from a single letter to all of its forms. But if you rewrite them after translate, it will look original content.

Since you're manually translating content, I'm assuming that you are, by definition, injecting your personal take on the content.
Now, if you're just using Google auto-translate, that's another story altogether.
But if you're manually translating, I don't see how this could be an issue since it's your native language, and you know English and are putting your own twist on the content you're translating.
At a certain level, it's original content you're creating.
The information may be the same, and it's basically reworded content, and in the eyes of copyright laws, it's derivative work, and you can still be liable for copyright infringement.
But that is not the case regarding the Google algorithm because it went through a human filter namely- you.
But if it's Google auto-translate, I suspect the content will get clobbered sooner rather than later.
