Did you clear your cache? and when you say website score went down and not up are you referring to page speed score and performance score there is a difference.

Which page score tool are you using? Images is also a major factor. The Clicky plugin should also have a cache option as well. In most cases you have to run multiple test to get an average.
 
Which plugin would you suggest for related posts? It should be very light.

I've been having success with Contextual Related Post plugin however I only use the text option and not the thumbnails as it creates blog. If you do decided to incorporate the thumbnail options I suggest to use the Asset Clean Up plugin in conjunction as it will allow you to move script or coded that is not need to avoid slow loading pages. Hope that helps.

What if he tried a paid CDN through lightspeed hosting? Often times isn't slow loading also due to bad hosting providers?

yes I'm referring to the multilingual Plugin.
I have a couple of site that had slow problem caused by this set of plugin

Yes those ML plugins are bloated with code but there is a very light weight one a colleague of mine using I'll get the info for you about the plugin.
