Attempts to quit smoking...

its more psycological, i avg 1 pack a day, sometimes more,,my top hit is more than 70 cigs in 9 hrs..i have left smoking 3 times in past 6 years..and i think thats the only 3 times i have attempted to stop smoking (not quitting smoking)..all 3 times i decided to stop it for a limited time. first time 2 days,, 2nd time 100 days...3rd time 100 days. and i didn't smoked a single puff in those days. i never avoided smoking or smokers around me. when i was not smoking i never had urge to smoke even my friends were smoking .the more you run the faster it gets you.

btw why you want to quit smoking? fuck those who says it kills,,may be it does,,i never had first hand experience with that. instead of quitting concentrate more on work around. start smoking lite cigarettes, reduce your daily count ,start yoga n meditation, work out,go for jogging,,wake up early.,,few good habits can kill tons of bad habit + your life will be much more different if u start practicing some of above mentioned things. most of the ppl that have stopped smoking have done it in an instant .so if you really want to stop,do it right now, dont run from it just stop.

It is easy to quit. Just tell yourself that you are not a smoker. Nothing in life will make me a smoker. Even if the worst thing in life happens to you you are not a smoker so you do not need to smoke.

He's right. That is one of three things preventing you from quitting. You are labeling yourself "A Smoker" The other two are:

-The pattern behavior (habit) of lighting up a cigarette
-The chemical nicotine addiction, which I can't say I have experience with.

work on knocking off the first one. Tell yourself you're not a smoker. Then work on breaking out of the habit of buying cigarette's, just bum them, trust me you'll be smoking less frequently. Then work on the hardest, breaking the addiction to nicotine.

They say all habits, good or bad, form in 21 days, so you can even give each one of those three steps 21 days each just to give yourself even more slack if you want.

I'm not throwing stones here either. I've never been a smoker but I do have a couple other "Addictions" or bad habits I'm not proud of.

I haven't smoked for several months now (excluding parties). I just smoked for a few years. I just figured that it's a total waste of money. Not only does it kills your pockets, it kills you. You could be spending that money towards food or IM. I do it only when someone else has a pack I can bum off of at a party. It satisfies my cravings, plus since i'm drunk at the moment I hardly remember :] lol I know that sounds weird but it works for me.

to thinkinghat: Because it gets me angry. These good habits are really getting me up :)

Thanks for the advices for BHW members. Audio d*ugs didn`t work. I`ll keep working on myself.

One thing that makes it more difficult is being around smokers. You may need to limit your time around them if possible, at least until you get over the hump.

Your comment in the first post made me laugh, it could be black hat, I think you meant black lung...

I smoked for 15 years, at one point it was 60 day, I used to give up every week or so in the last 3 or 4 years. I'd stop smoking cigarettes and smoke small cigars and end up smoking as many of those in a day.

How did I do it, simple I made a decision to stop because it was costing me a fortune, I stank of smoke, my breath was foul, I was coughing like an old man, I could crack the pavement with my early morning spit and I was slowly killing my lungs with that shit. If that offends anyone, tough, that's how it was, it's a disgusting habit and should be banned completely in my opinion, best thing that shite Labour government ever did in the UK was to ban smoking in public.

25 years later I am still feeling the effects with reduced lung capacity but you know what if I'd carried on I'd either be dead or on oxygen.

Stop the bullshit I can't do it attitude, have your last fag and GIVE UP, you'll feel better for it, you'll smell better to everyone around you and you'll have more cash in your pocket.

i simple cant ... and i smoke for like 7 years now ... anyway i once lived 2 days without smoking and that was because i was on camping and no stores around since i was on a 2000 feet mountain lol... but anyway i cant :D good luck to the rest of you

you dont have smoking problems man, as you can see you have emotional problems because everytime you get angry you smoke, so basically you should learn how to control your emotions... i recommend you to search in the web for the urban monk webpage it talks about that, good luck

Successfully i have quit smoking in long bursts.

My technique :
I am a god fearing person . i took the oath not to smoke for 6 months .
I have set the deadline and i was waiting for whole 6 months to smoke again.
It really worked and i was successful in temporarily quitting it for 6 months( Not even a single stick)
And again i started it for a week and i again took the oath for another six months.i smoked altogether 2 weeks in the complete year.
right now i am in 7th month of the second phase and i dont feel like smoking..
For nicotin withdrawal symptoms i used Nicotin chewing gums and patches.
It really helped me a lot.

PS : Permanantly quitting ..I am afraid there is no such thing..

I've been trying to quit smoking for a couple of years. Recently, I've found out that the method that works best for me is to gradually decrease the amount of nicotine intake rather than completely attempting to snuff it out of my system. So from Marlboro Gold, I stepped down to Ultra Lights, then to Davidoff One (which had 1 mg tar, 0.1 mg nicotine, 1 mg carbon monoxide), last year I switched to Davidoff Slim One, and now I'm on Davidoff Ultra Slim One.

Since I now work at home on my PC, I leave my pack in the kitchen so then if I need to smoke, I need to get up. It used to be that I smoke the most when I'm working, so this strategy has me cutting down a bit, coz it's a bit inconvenient to keep getting up and back.

All the best to you!

nicotine gum and electronic cigarettes is how I quit smoking... and haven't had a cigarette in years..

I am a first hand example of how ecigs can benefit smokers. I've been smoking for 19 years. I have not had light anything up for nearly 5 months now. I 'vape'. Meaning I use ecigs. I tell every smoker I know about it. It just works, for me at least. The thing is many people don't realize is how hard it is to give up that feeling of inhaling, getting the throat hit, and feeling your lungs expand.

Ecigs give you that but you will really see a difference in your breathing, stamina, energy, and overall health. You aren't filling your lings with smoke anymore.

It's a great way to ween yourself off of nicotine altogether and eventually you can use the ecig less and less until you find you really don't even need it anymore.

They have eliquids that come in zero nicotine strength when you are fully ready to toss the nicotine out of the equation.

Electronic cigarettes have really helped me. And I don't even want to be around a real cigarette. After not smoking traditional tobacco for a few months I was in a bar and some of my friends came back in after smoking outside. I couldn't believe how badly they smelled. I mean it was really awful. And I thought to myself, DAMN! That STINKS!

I couldn't believe I use to smell like that.

And these days, I can't see why people won't give it a try. They are afraid to spend $50-$100 to try an ecig. But they will continue going out and buying a pack a day for $12.

Lots of people are claiming e-cigarette is good option... I am also smoking from last 20 years although first 10 years were occasional... From last 10 years I am averaging 10 cig/day... My friends also suggesting me to try e-cig... I might give it a try... If any one here used it let me know your experience...

I quitted smoking 4 days ago (after 2.5 years of smoking).

I had some attempts in the past... managed 1 week, 5 days and respectively 3 days.

Now i'm going strong:)

It burns me like 10 minutes / day to smoke but that's all - I just ignore the feeling and think at my future health (i can sleep better, i can breathe better, i feel better etc) and furthermore, cigarettes are fucking cancer.

Big CEO of cigarette companies fuck bitches on expensive yachts (like Harro) and we cought blood from our damaged lungs.

WE"RE HUMAN BEINGS, GOD DAMN IT!

my father was hit by heart disease because cigarette, and the doctor said to him "if you want to live longer, stop smoking!". and now, although he has stopped smoking, the illness can not recover and often abused him. I really can not bear :pout:. therefore, i never tried to smoke. because it made my father suffer lifelong. from my experience maybe you can find out all the negative effects of smoking. i'm sure if you know what the effects, you shall fear smoking again. create fear in you, to not become the next VICTIM. try to stop before its too late. :ballchain

That's great that you're quitting-- I smoked for 11 years, quit 7 years ago and honestly, I never even think about it anymore. I wouldn't call it "easy," but I made a plan and stuck to it, and now it's definitely part of my past-- I couldn't even picture myself smoking anymore.

I used the nicotine patch plus I read Richard Bandler's book "Get the Life You Want" and used the NLP techniques in there. I thought about it for the first month or so, then I felt so much better and could breathe so much easier, I could definitely tell the difference.

Hi to all BHW members. This is my first thread, si if you see some mistakes of my English, please understand me, thanks.

So i started this thread, because i wanted to know how were you trying to quit smoking and also tell about my attempts.

I`m smoking for 8 years and my first attempt was 4 years ago, when i read Allen Carr ebook "Easy Way To Stop Smoking". So the result was 1 year no smoking, that was great, after 1 year i was got angry by one person and had to smoke one cigarette to relax, then other one and other... And i`m a smoker now again.

Second attempt was rereading book from the begin 6 month ago, no smoker for 3 days, one evening a little a beer, "wualia" i`m smoking again.

Third attempt 2 days ago, i found a DVD relision of Allen Carr "Easy Way To Stop Smoking". so i watched, 4 hours no smoking and again i was got angry, smoking again. I`m smoking1i pack of cigarettes for 1 day.

I know that a lot of people are using "willpower", but with this one i have failed.

So looking for other methods to quit smoking, also it could blackhat methods :D

Thank you for all attention :)

keep smoking man
