Following this journey! (Rarely that I do)
Keep your work up, you're hopefully going to be a hero soon ;)

Thank YOU!

Nice to see journey with detailed content and responses.

I'm trying to be as forthcoming as I can.

I thought this place has been died out in the summer, but every day a new journey pops up. Glad to see some are still kicking hard in here.
Following this and good luck with your project. Looks promising!

Thanks!

I deal with companies directly now and offer monthly subscriptions to them.

Sounds like an interesting journey as well!

UPDATE #2

Not so much going on with adding new articles to the site. I have 2 new articles posted.

Went back through current content and posted an average of 200 words more relevant helpful content to each post.
It must be working as the Big G has deemed my content a bit more valuable as my rankings are increasing each day now
.

08/05/2019 Broke into the 40 range (for 3-month average)

08/06/2019 6.87K Impressions, 2.9%CTR 12 backlinks (natural)
1 sale of a reviewed item
Google showing that I am ranking for 435 keywords. Bing showing I am ranking for 344.
Google traffic is now 6 to 1 over Bing pretty much every day.
The site receiving an average of 10 visitors per day.
Amazon is clocking an average of 8 clicks a day on aff links.

I am only using on-page SEO at the moment and proper interlinking of content. I have decided to see how far
I can go with only organic SEO and no backlinking at this time.

I am shooting for high 30's in the Big G before I do any backlinking packages. I think if I can hit that on my
own, then backlinking should skyrocket the site.

The PLAN for the rest of AUGUST 2019:

I have content planned for 6 more articles "how-to" and "best x"
I have content planned for 6 "x vs x" articles
With 3 weeks left of the month, I am confident I can get one article posted every 2 days.
I have already created cover images for the first 6 articles - hopefully, that will help in getting images pinned on Pinterest by users. Also maybe getting some FB posts and twitter posts. Who knows. At least it will look nicer on my blog.

Check rankings over the next 3 weeks and report back on how it's going.

UPDATE #3

Finished adding about 300 words helpful relevant info to the rest of the 24 articles. Made sure I'm using main keyword and minimum 3 long tails in the added content.

Made a shit ton of images for the new slew of articles.

Having to keep my hands off the keyboard to keep add the new articles too fast, I don't want to screw up Google as I have only been adding an article or so a month. So putting 2 a week for a bit hopefully is ok.

Making sure I have proper interlinking is taking some time. I'm having to make myself a list on paper
and cross them off one by one as I do them.

I keep wandering off plan and thinking about addidng hashtags and doing FB ad images, etc. I am not doing any
social media yet, although I really think I should make appropriate FB, Pinterest and Instagram profiles for this site and
use the auto notify built into the site to get stuff going out there. I wonder if I am giving myself a rabbit hole to fall into
though? <<<< Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Site is moving nicely up the SERPS - it's not a rocket ship but it is moving upwards on the 3 month average every day.
It's sitting at a solid 49 today. Up 9 spots in the last 2 days from 49.9

Not seeing any movement on my top 10 spots though and that's ok at least they are first page results. I will look at
boosting those with backlinks once I get the site up to 35 ranking in Google.

Google is showing 515 keywords in my search console. But of course, the only ones really getting any clicks are not
surprisingly the review article keywords and the buyer guide articles keywords. That is ok, and I think is probably normal,
I'm not so sure since I am so new to all this website stuff. I would think though that there are going to be plenty of
keyword derivatives and long tails that come up. Some may be of use and some not.

I am seeing when I look through the search console that I am coming up for some keyword items that I do not have on my site,
they are related though. So, I am going to have to come up with a plan to execute some of those items onto the site.
Why waste traffic?

So todays STATS:

Total Impressions 8.18K, Average CTR 2.7%, Average Position (3-month) 49
Total Sales so far this month: 2
Total Aff Commission so far this month: $16.00

Can anyone tell me if this CTR (2-3%) range is good or not? I'm thinking it needs to be much higher.

UPDATE #5

This week has been a busy week.

Got my schema markup on point. Even though this is a small site (only 35 pieces of content so far), I felt it was important to get this done and get it done correctly.

When I would check my schema in Google Schema Checker: https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool
I would come up with errors and I didn't know how to fix them - sometimes not even knowing what the error meant.

So, I did some research. And more research. Cuz it takes me a while to process stuff LOL.

I got a plugin from @Festinger out of his free vault for schema markup - Schema Pro. It's really good
to help square away the common schema markups I would need but not all of them. But hey, when
@Festinger gives great plugin for free - my god man - use them. He gives great stuff on this forum
for absolutely nothing in return. Much Respect @Festinger.

Implemented markup for rich snippets on August 12th. Thought it would take a while to see results but
results started showing up in a few minutes. Not all URLs got a rich snippet, it was just 1 or 2 at first.
Over the course of the next 8 -10 days they started showing in Google. I had to fiddle with some pieces
of content schema settings to get them to show correctly but, totally worth it!

On the 19th of August, I got my first Featured Snippet Box on Google. I'm really excited.
I know for the seasoned vets around here, it just another day at the office when this happens.
Meaning, I'm a NOOB and I get excited about every little thing. To me though, this is a big
deal. I had wanted to get a Featured Snippet Box since the day my mentor showed me
one of his for one of his websites.

What did it take to get my schema markup on the point you ask?

1. Research a bit on Schema markup to see exactly what I had to implement and how.
Google is a bit obtuse about how they explain things. I guess if you are a full-blown
web developer then the Google talk makes sense to you. However, I had to check out some
youtube videos and poke around on Neil Patel's site to get the answers I needed.

2. Downloaded and installed the Schema Pro Markup Plugin from @Festinger
(Check his threads for some amazing stuff!!) then set up the plugin the way I wanted
it to work for me.

3. Went through my website - thank Jesus it's only about 35 pages or so right now.
Made sure each page had the proper markup and checked to make sure they were
set for the rich snippets.

4. Ran each page through https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool
to make sure they all passed. You can do that through your dashboard as well
when you have the plugin installed.

5. Corrected errors that showed up over the next couple of days. It's pretty easy
once you have the plugin installed to find the proper place to fix errors.

6. Check on Google from another browser to see if rich snippets are showing up.
Just once, I don't want to skew any Google results in search console.

7. Go about business, as usual, adding a couple more pieces of content and making
sure schema is correct to before I hit publish.

So, after all, that was situated, I made the move to install the AAWP plugin on my site.

Some Pointers here, if you are going to make an Amazon Affiliate site that you
are planning on keeping for the long term, I highly suggest using the AAWP
plugin from the very start.
I think it will make your life much easier than if you
install it later and have to swap all the links out for shortcodes.

I will say that I love shortcodes. Swapping everything over in all those articles,
well, it sucked ass. It took me about 3 days to get everything right. It can be a
bit fiddly to get everything to show up just the way you want it to. But again,
so totally worth it.

I think my site does look a bit better since installing and setting things up. I can
see how in the future I can use the plugin to change up the way I do things on
the site. And I love the fact that now I get a 30? or 90? day cookie on my visitors instead
of 24 hours.

@jamie3000 Hit me up and said hey take a look at my new tool AMZLinkChecker
(Check his thread https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/who-wants-a-free-homepage-link-to-their-amazon-affiliate-website.1124556/#post-12112258

When I ran my site through the tool (it's really fast!) it came up with a few items that
were no longer available and running into Amazons amazingly crappy 404 pages that
leaves your visitors totally screwed when they try to find the product you linked to from
that 404 pages leaving them in a black hole of absolute shit. So I was driving traffic that
I worked my ass off to get to Amazon only to have that traffic hit a brick wall of nothingness.
I know, cuz I tried forever to find the product or something similar. So there ya go, traffic wasted.
Even with the 24-hour cookie, the likelihood of someone making more than 3 clicks to find
what they want is absolutely NIL.

So this situation was a must fix right now issue for me.
I didn't spend all this time building a site to have fuck all in return for my trouble.

Spent 2 days going through the content I have and changing out the links to products that
were moved and hitting 404 pages to regain earnings on those pieces of content.

Then I ran down products that had their ratings plunge below what I had reviewed
previously and added updates to those pieces of content.

Now, you might think that you don't need to run your links down because your site is new,
that's what I thought too.
Just check your site. Amazon is moving stuff around all the time
and they redirect some links to other products and some they just 404, plain & simple.

I don't think it is so much that Amazon does it on purpose, I think after looking at the products
and the sellers that were listed, some of them just stop offering that product for whatever
reason and remove it from their inventory and that's that. So, it's a practice going forward
for me to run my links every couple weeks or so from now on any sites I build in the future
a well.

So check out @jamie3000 service, he's got a 7-day trial. Run your site once through it and
see how it goes. I didn't expect the results I got at all. You might be surprised too.

Website Stats: Last 3 Months Averages:

Total Clicks: 295
Total Impressions: 10.3 K
Average CTR: 2.9%
Average position: 47.1 ----- this is up from an average position of 57 when I started recording this journey 06/23/2019

Last 7 days: Rich snippets started 08-12-2019 and Google featured Snippet 08-19-2019

Total Clicks: 67 clicks
Total Impressions: 1.7K
Average CTR: 4%
Average Position: 42.5

Filtering just for Rich Snippets:

Total Clicks: 52
Total Impressions: 1.04K
Average CTR: 5%
Average Position: 43

So, looking at the graphs my traffic doubled almost immediately on the 13th of August and has stayed at that
level since. So I would definitely say that getting my schema on point was worth a few day's works.

I'm also ranking in spots 5-30 for new keywords that are pretty darn great keywords.
All told I am ranking now for 620 keywords. That is a massive jump in the last 12 days or so since implementing
schema. It took a big jump since I got the Google Featured snippet too as I notice my rankings in Google
console is going up not only for that piece of content but most of the others on my site too. Some pages/keywords
have moved from the positions of the nether regions in the 80 range to some into the top 10. Most have at least
increased by half their prior position say from 75 to 35.

It's literally blowing my mind. I have not done anything to get backlinks. No PBN's. No nothing, just the basic
SEO that my mentor is teaching me.

There are plenty of SEO techniques and strategies for building these niche sites, but this one seems very
straightforward to me. It makes sense now that I see it coming together and I am understanding it more
and more. So I'm still learning, it's working. I'm not a millionaire yet though LOL.

AMAZON STATS: Aug 1 - Aug 22

Clicks: 163
Orders: 4
Items: 6
Earnings: $40 USD
Conversion 3.68%

For some reason the last 8 days I have been registering lots of clicks ( like 3 x more than usual) but no sales.
I'm going to attribute a good bit of that to me running down my links manually, but it certainly isn't the whole
reason.

I have noticed on my Statcounter reports that I am getting traffic from countries that I don't have Amazon
Associates accounts in. So, I may be making sales but it's not registering to my affiliate account.

I'm not at the point of registering for those countries just yet though. I may be wrong but, in order to keep
an affiliate account in each country you register for, you have to have 3 qualifying sales in 3 months or
6 months something like that to keep your account.

So, I think I will wait a bit for traffic to pick up a bit in those countries before I register again.

I had in a prior website experience and managed to lose all the accounts because of not qualifying sales.

Blog Outreach:

I contacted each site that I linked any content to through their contact forms and let them know that I had linked
to them and told them about the featured snippet results, gave them the URL of their article that I linked to and my
URL where they could see the article itself. I asked them politely for a link back if they were so inclined.

I haven't heard back yet, but it's only been a day or two - so maybe next week I will get replies.

Plan Going Forward:

I still have several pieces of content to add to the site. I have a killer buyers guide
type piece that is absolutely massive (and pretty great) almost ready to post. I need to finish the supporting
pieces before I add this one. So by the end of the month that will be done.

Ordered some content from @blackbeans to help move things along as well.

I'm thinking I need to add email signup to the site - just not sure how I am going to frame it just yet.

Any questions you may have, ask away and I will see if I can answer them.

Thanks for reading and I hope this helps you with your journey.

Hello, would you have the link to Festinger's article BHW? I can not find it.

Can you please share how did you setup the following in the Schema Pro plugin:

For review articles:

* Did you use Review markup for articles other the individual product reviews?
* How did you setup Product Name in the markup? Did you just use Article Title, or have you manually entered it as a Custom Field?
* How did you setup review score, or stars? Did you enter it manually for each article in the Custom Field or do you pull it from some other review plugin?

For regular articles:
* Did you setup Persona as author or corporation?
* Could you share screenshots of the schema markup fields setup for Article and Review schemas? (Censor all the private information in the screen shot!)

A tip for you:
There is a plugin called Automatic Post Tagger.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/automatic-post-tagger/

It can scan article titles and text and automatically put Tags for posts and pages.

And, combining that with the ability of Schema Pro plugin to determine schema based on a tag, some portion of assigning schemas to different types of articles can be automated. It's not perfect. I just discovered that yesterday so it's not solved yet. I believe with some creativity it could be solved to automate schema assigning.

Best Regards,
Zatoichi

@Zatoichi Hey sorry for the late reply. I just set up the schema for reviews as reviews and the articles as articles.

If you have trouble with it at all you can adjust it in the fields at the bottom of your post.

For my ratings I use the ratings of the product where it is listed. If it's 4 stars on Amazon I rate it the same, sometimes slightly less or more depending on further examination of the actual ratings customers leave on Amazon. For instance, if a product has a rating of 3.5 but most of the complaints are about damage in shipping, that's not really a fair vote on the product. It's a vote against shipping. I dunno if that makes sense or not.

I set up my tags and category choices manually for each piece of content. It takes a bit longer but it does seem to work out pretty well.

I'd rather run down a problem I created myself if I ever have to than try to figure out what plugin has done.

Yoast SEO now works with Google and Wordpress and you have to choose either a person or business. I don't think it really matters which one you pick as long as the persona fits the choice. For instance, if you are writing articles as John Smith, I'd imagine that would be ok to have the site be something like IAMJOHNSMITH dot whatever OR use a business like IREVIEWSTUFF dot whatever and assign yourself an author box and a byline. If you are planning on taking your website to great heights, I would think that the latter would be better because then you can add authors later - but that's just me. There are SEO TiTans on this site that would be better equipped to answer that for you.

I hope that answers your questions? If not, let me know and I will try to clarify.

UPDATE #6

Long couple of weeks here.

BLOG OUTREACH: zero replies. so ok, whatever, moving along LOL.

Installed AAWP and had trouble getting it to authorize with Amazon. I thought it would only take a few minutes and after going thru AAWP documentation a couple times, I contact Amazon Affiliates directly. Boy what a day at the park that is. I got a good rep on the line and she verified that my account is in good standing and that I can use the API. She did some looking and said that it would take 24-48 hours to authorize through Amazon before the API would kick in and I'd get a green light. So, I cooled my heels a bit and waited the 48 hours.

After 48 hours, I checked and it was all green so,

Spent 3 days going through the content and changing all the links over to AAWP short links.

I'm a bit worried now too because since installing the shortlinks (the site looks more professional now I think too) I have registered literally like over 400 clicks but not 1 sale. It's been 3 weeks without a sale on this site.

I'm thinking maybe it was a bit more seasonal than I thought, I dunno. I literally had a meltdown yesterday when I checked my stats on Amazon. Like literally. In one day alone over 260 clicks registered. I thought maybe those hits were AMZLink running the links for me, but they have never registered like that in my Amazon account before, so I'm thinking it was some sort of bot but I dont' know yet. I may check my hosting cpanel and see if anything interesting was logged.

I added another 10,000 words of useful content to the site and a new review about 1500 words. I use @blackbeans for some of my articles. It helps a lot to get help when I have to add a lot of content and he does awesome article writing, so if you are in need of some great content check his threads.

Created new images for some of my posts. I don't know if it's helping traffic just yet, but they do look nicer and it's easier to see my images in Google search as they stand out from all the others now.

Got a couple of AMZlink reports this last couple of weeks that were really helpful. I had a couple of products that were actually pulled from Amazon and 404'd so I had to go fix those. @jamie3000 is the owner of AMZLink - check it out. (Check his thread https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/w...azon-affiliate-website.1124556/#post-12112258

I had to come up with a strategy for that as well, I had never thought before that products would just disappear from Amazon. I guess for whatever reason, vendors decide to quit listing that product or maybe manufacturers swap out for a newer item. Anyway, that's interesting when it happens to you because then out have to figure out what to do with the review that you worked your butt off to write and rank for a product that is just ghosted.

I chose to do a manual update to the posts in question and explain that they are no longer available and pointed readers to a different but similar product, then redirected all the links as well. Don't know if that's ok in the Google or Amazon Gods eyes but that's what I did.

To the Cool Stuff:

Google Search Console Stats: LAST 3 MONTHS AVERAGES

Clicks: 377
IMPRESSIONS: 13.5k
AVERAGE CTR: 2.8%
AVERAGE POSITION: 45.6

LAST 28 DAYS SINCE START OF RICH SNIPPETS

Clicks: 182
IMPRESSIONS: 6.85k
AVERAGE CTR: 2.7%
AVERAGE POSITION: 43.8

LAST 7 DAYS FILTERING JUST FOR RICH SNIPPETS

Clicks: 40
IMPRESSIONS: 1.23k
AVERAGE CTR: 3.2%
AVERAGE POSITION: 39.6

These stats for the last 7 days have literally shot up a bunch.

08/24/2019 UPDATE #5 This site was ranking for 620 keywords total and it had about 8 in spots 1-10. Of those about 6 were good ones.
09/07/2019 UPDATE #6 This site is ranking for 757 keywords total and 20 in spots 1-10. Of those 18 are great and 2 are so generic as to be pretty worthless. 21 keywords in spots 11-15 and 40 more in spots 16-30. A lot of them are really good and are what I was planning on getting ranked when I started the site.

So I guess the stats don't really mean too much to the naked eye since this site isn't sitting at #1 position on Google - nowhere close yet.

Here are a couple things that are going on with it though and it's taking me a bit of time to rack it all down.

I started with a brand spanking new domain. That means 0 DR 0 PR 0TF. Literally none.
It is getting a few back links on it's own here and there about 20 now.
It does have a 4 DR now.

Here's the last thing that I would expect though:

I have content ranking in positions 1-10
It's sitting either just below the manufacturer and Amazon OR
Below Amazon and ABOVE the Manufacturer
It's hitting the BIG BOYS HARD

I have been checking rankings and looking at where this site is coming in and my jaw is dropping literally every day.

I can't believe it because when I look through Keyword tools at difficulties over 45 and up to 70, this site is doing pretty well especially for having started on a brand new domain. There are some websites that regularly post in this niche like huge ones and I'm outranking them on a few articles. Not many but a few and that is just freaking unbelievable. At least to me. I have heard of the power of niche sites but hadn't really thought that it could be true unless you basically had a whole team of people to create content on a daily basis for it and that it would have to have hundreds if not thousands of articles to compete. I'm pretty blown away at the moment.

It sure would be nice to get a better conversion rate in sales though. Something to research in the future as I keep building this site.

I have learned some valuable lessons so far for the next site. I will share some of those if there is enough interest.

I'm getting excited that maybe I can do this after all. A bit bummed on the no sales in the last 3 weeks part though.

Keep motivated. Results are coming very soon. Your journey inspiring me like never before. Will following you till the end.
