$5k Blog Project - Follow Along!

It's the time of year that I start putting money into building my email lists - so I decided to build a kickass blog that builds leads month to month AND earns money from adsense.
I wanted to take this opportunity to publicly share my journey and process, to help people who are attempting something similar. Also, there's a ton of great minds on here and I'm always eager to learn more. Especially in terms of SEO, since I've always been more into day trading / paid advertising.
~ So, I've got my website with about 6 articles (so far), yoast for on page seo, feedburner, and adsense, all wrapped up in a nice brand in the finance niche.
~ I've also got about $3k in my freelancer account, and another couple grand ready for when it's needed.
~ I bought ultimate niche finder, 10 private proxies (lime proxies) and have found a bunch of wicked low competition keywords.
~ I intend to add a popup email opt-in some time in the next couple weeks (probably from wpsubscribers)

The site has been ready for a couple weeks. My first step is spending about $400 to get around 20 more articles that are properly targeted to some low competition keywords. My second step is buying about $300 in backlinking from a reputable freelancer guy. I'll be buying links from BHW soon, but I want to spend some of the freelancer dough first.

$800 spent, $4200 to go.

I have tried to get emails from my current blog with about 1k views a day. SO far I get 1-2 ppl signing up a week...

If you find a high converting email sign up wp-plugin plz share!

For $5k I suggest build a user generated content site. Then you don't need to worry about backlinks, traffic. You can focus on getting member on the site. And let them do the work. Anyways wish you all the best!

Sorry OP but yours is a bad plan. Go to buy/sell threads and buy 100 (maybe 120 with discount) micro niche sites from reputed members of this community. I am sure that will be a better investment for $5000.

Theextractor - What's your reasoning for that? I don't see why this is better in any way at all. One blog narrows my focus, which allows me to build an all around better, higher PR blog.

Thanks gents. I'd like to report that the site (from getting 0 visits) is now at about 40 uniques per day. Interestingly enough, this is almost consistently bringing me a click on adsense every day. Each click is worth around a buck.. so CPC and CTR is doing great! Just a side note - I have a very large adsense area in the sidebar, which floats with the user so that it is always visible.
So, all in all, I have about 15 articles now and just $300 spent on backlinks. I'll be putting down some more money, and putting up articles more aggresively in the next 24hrs - I will definitely post it up here.

Oooh awesome journey.. any estimate when u will run of $5K? So we can then see how profitable it was to spend that money.

I am expecting to spend around $4k by the end of may, but I don't expect the full results to come back for another 2-3.
Truth be told, I have a lot of projects on hand and need to move a bit quicker with this one. I'll be making some bigger updates to this thread in the next day or so (just gotta put some hours in).

It's almost completely focused on finance. Within finance, there are a few sub niches. Ex: day trading strategies, penny stocks, forex, energy stocks, etc.

Semrush may help you a lot with your niche research

I've used semrush to attempt due diligence on some flippa sites I was buying, but it never seemed to work well with smaller sites. What did you have in mind?
