Do you build topic clusters before publishing content ?

I usually plan the main topics first and add the internal links as I go. It's easier for me that way.

Yes you see it, the old way of internal link building is a waste of time , but as I said there is a much better method......

I go crazy planning it all beforehand, much easier that way, and more effective for SEO.
Remember, you can noindex the catagories until enough content branching from it, but still use the slug

Every time I winged it and built my internal links after the fact, I ended up lost in my own maze, trying to remember which page connects where. A rough plan upfront saves me from spinning my wheels later, even if I have to tweak things down the line. Especially once a site grows past a dozen posts, having clusters mapped out takes so much guesswork off my plate.
i always start by mapping the central topic as well as all the supporting pages that i may think of. it is much easier than making 30 random links when the pages are published.

I always start by mapping out the key topic followed by adding the supporting posts. it makes linking within the blog so much easierr later on instead of having to un tangle it all after the blog gets larger.

You doing it all wrong, on a single blog alone (without have a business website too) clusters, pillar pages you only need when you want rank for specific keywords only then. I keep my wp with the simplest standard flat site structure.

Building a topic cluster is part of strategy. Generally i avoid posting articles randomly. everything i post on my sites is preplanned. and i think it's the best strategy that i follow. By doing this you can keep track of what are the article that are already covered and what needs to be covered and you always have a room to add a few articles in any cluster. And for interlink i don't plan much. when i am creating content if i find some relevant artice that provides valus to the topic i interlink them. Rest i do after going live/rechecking.

Clusters, pillars- you need when you want to rank for specific keywords, otherwise not. The simple standard blog flat structure site (on a thematic blog) outbeats them all.,
