My Finding after google update! What's your?

When a site gets heavily penalised, is it best to carry out an assesment of all inbound links, and order those links in order of spammyness, then disallow them?

Compensate by generating a ton of great content, sharing this content, generating some solid links in the process?

or....

Is it all hands on deck and chip in for a lot of facebook marketting/adsense/insta promotion?

Mix of on page density and off page EXACT anchors ...
And they spiced it up with some "random " shit it seems.
As some of my subpages got hit. Some did not ..

I am a big fan of quality content. Thus, I didn't concentrate much on backlinks. I have only forum links and comments links.

None of my sites got smacked, but then again I didn't rely on fucking blog comments and profiles to rank.

Forum and comments links don't automatically mean spam or profile links. If done properly they're valuable. Since the OP said that he is "big fan of quality content" I wouldn't assume that he is spamming the web left and right.

I never said that. When I said 'done properly' I meant manual comments on forums or blogs related to what's on my website that actually provide some value.

If my keyword was 'best portable chair' I'd probably got rid of the best and have 'portable chair' once or twice even if my post was 5k words and use 'it' or chair whenever I have to. But this is just a guideline as it has to nicely fit into what's written on your page and make sense. Overall my goal was to 'dilute' keyword density to a bare minimum.

How many times you repeat exact keyword (long tail kw that containt 4-5 word) in article that contain 2k-2,5k words.
Because I always use Long tail keyword.


Maybe I should try reduce my kw density.
because my traffic reduced almost 90% after fred update's.

The update may have multiple components, but one of them is ads for sure. A big loser who publically talked about a loss of 50%+ of traffic thefactsite.com They almost fully recovered and from looking at the site, the only thing that changed is that they removed the top adsense ad above the post image on every subpage.

I don't specifically target long tail keywords, I go after the short tail (1 or 2 words) When I originally reduced my keyword density I had my main 2-word keyword twice in that 6k post that was hit and none of the related keywords. I basically wanted to start from scratch and by increasing density, I wanted to see how the algo would react to it.

The funny thing is that another post that was partially hit (see my comment when I said "I have another post that is a puzzle for me" by this update lost ranking for the keywords that I was after and is ranking #1 and #2 for long tail keywords that I don't even mention them in that post.

Personally, I believe that this is a multi-level quality update and what works for someone might not work for me. So I keep an open mind and try to eliminate things that don't apply to my website and focus on things that I think might be relevant.
I know websites that bounced back after removing ads and know websites with exceptional content and no ads that were hit and did not recover. All in all, it's going to be hard to figure this update out.

I agree that this is a multiple components update. I wish that all I had to do was to remove ads which I never had on my website in the first place.

Originally when I removed my targeted keywords to almost zero I had it twice in body text. After it tanked to 50 and I increased the density to 0.2 and later 0.4% some of them are in body text and some in H2. I did not do anything to meta description as sometimes (stupid) google uses what I wrote in there and sometimes they pick on random sentences that are in my post (from the first 200 words) I was about to say that's not something I can control but now that you have mentioned it I will do a test and put what I think should go into meta description in the beginning of my post and see how google will handle it.
EDIT: I'm not telling you to switch your strategy from long tail to short tail, I just made an observation that may or may not be useful to you.

I agree 100% that the recent updates have multiple components.

But I don't agree that ads are "for sure."

I'm tracking dozens of sites, with well over 100 keywords. A few of the sites that got hit hard have zero ads, and aren't affiliate sites. No ads, no nothing.

I think there is much more to the update then any of us realize.

No, and I never said anything about quality of them either, but it didn't stop you making an assumption did it?
