Stealth account name and debt collectors???

A CL Document sounds like it could be something internal to them.

It could also be a collection letter doc but it makes no sense that they did not send some correspondence in the mail first. If they are asking for Joe Smith in the phone call and your name is Barry Bonkers, and you never used your real address for any of your stealth stuff you are probably OK.

Now, the phone could be traced to your address if that is how you set it up when you first got it (I'm assuming it is a mobile) and they are thinking that Joe Smith lives at your house and not the fictitious address you used when you set up the stealth acct.

Provided this is a civil action:

If it is me and she comes knocking on my door, I'd answer it, not give your name or ID and tell her that she has the wrong house as Joe Smith never lived there. If she asks if your phone number is 555-555-5555, tell here that you are not giving any personal information to a complete stranger. Don't give them any info at all and deny knowing Joe Smith and that he has never lived there.

Provided this is a criminal case:

If it is a cop or other law enforcement, and I really really doubt it is, you have to be truthful but can say you do not want to talk to them without an attorney.

A debt collector would have sent several letters before serving papers and odds are those letters got sent to the fake addressed you used. My bet is that the fear of the wolf is much worse than the actual wolf here and you'll be fine as a fiddle.

Sure, they have the ability to trace a number.

If a police officer was coming over wouldn't the police have called and not this lady who appears to be a server.

The lady didn't identify herself as a police officer and said she was stopping by the residence.

I feel like it would be illegal as fuck if she came over with papers with out sending letters through the mail to the address she was stopping by over.

I have some room mates so unless they seen the letter and threw it out or whatever that's the only other thing but I doubt they would have they never have done nothing like that and they are like my best friends


Anyways for anyone that cares or who may experience this in the future I will take notes on here of what happens.

Detective agencies in the States can also trace you via a phone number.

I'm sure there are State and Federal laws that require your firm to be bonded or some such thing but that is not an uncommon thing at all.

I'm 99.9% sure that you are 100% OK.

I would also bet that the term CL Docs is just used to scare you as there is nothing online about that term so you can't find out what it is.

Update almost 2 hours in and no one maybe it was just a scare tactic or maybe they really are coming out just to the wrong address. I guess time will tell

The tactics are much the same and we were told to use certain buzzwords and structure our sentences in ways which we designed to simulate fear and create a sense of urgency.

We loved using the word "may". We "may" proceed legal action against you. This doesn't mean that we will, it means we might, even though we most likely wont. But this word is followed by the words "proceed legal action" which makes people think straight away that they will get sued if they don't pay. It all becomes up to the debtors interpretation of what was said but, what the collections officer said is not a threat, an intimidating act or a notification that you are getting sued.

Bottom line is, these guys know how to talk and are taught to be authoritative and assertive with sentences open for interpretation which are actually clearly defined. It's a scummy industry and all these workers have huge quotas to achieve every month so they end up being consumed by the industry and become a parasitic leech.

If all the details they have are from your stealth account then you shouldn't worry. But, in my country, I would sometimes be able to find the name of the person attached to a cell phone number through a simple Google search. Never identify yourself to them and insist they have the wrong number/address and you formally request them to stop contacting you.

I think it might be fake debt collection scam.

The lady left a number leading to a legit debt collector and I called and told them they are calling my line regarding someone I don't know who they are so she said she'd put me on a do not call list

The debt collecting company has no BBB profile also of that means anything
