@foxkoneko i use vidIQ chrome extension, this is a great tool that can teach you what does works and why, it will show you the full tags of a video
@jjgg89 don't guess, just search the main terms in your niche, and copy the same tags that #1 top videos uses, make sure you have the main term on the title and 2-3 times in the description
if this is working for them, it will work for you. but keep in mind that the initial index is counted. i don't know how fast changes on old videos will get re-indexed again.

how do you know which keywords are number 1? I talk about a variety of topics my channel isn't a specific niche. Should I even tell ppl my channel on this forum or no? Lol

you better not post your channel here, but if you publish a video on topic X, i assume you have some plan to rank it on search terms related to topic x, yes?
then it's easy to find out, who is the competition for the target term (who is number #1 or #2) and get some tags, description, title ideas that will help you.

Yea is my goal to beat them in that keyword tag bcuZ I find it hard that anyone in gaming niche game out rank pewdiepie. Or is my goal to use the same hashtag as them bcuZ it's the right hashtag to use since ppl r searching it?

For example I made a video about how to go on date n I tag it, relationship, how to go on dates, pewdiepie, gamer, hot girls.

U see in my example I have some tags that are correct, but wa about the rest? Will YouTube see that and mark my video as no good therefore not rank them?

As of right now I don't think so but you never know what youtube could change in their algorithm in the future. In my opinion, better safe than sorry.... go through your vids and toss some of the irrelevant ones.

You can always check what your competitors are using keyword wise by rightclicking and then pressing the view page source, then click ctrl f and then insert keywords into the query box, that's what i do to get some good targeted keywords to rank my videos..

is a proof that SPAMMING the main keyword does WORKING, (at least for this guy)
the owner of the video stuff kw x3 times in the description and X5 times in the tags and x1 in the title.

if this working for him, why not try it for yourself? there is no penalties (this video is there since 11/2015)

Oh see it now thanks, and I also see the strategy the guy is using! now the question is are any of those stats bought? he only has 8k subs but he has 100k+ views, seems kinda weird to me, shouldn't he have more subs?

In the mean time i will be using this strategy of putting the keywords n tags and title and descriptions to work and will get back to you all on this matter.
maybe ill make a new thread for this for all the youtubers here.

we can't tell that, since this is a high volume search term he ranked for, it could lead to those views regardless to the subs, and yes it will be nice if you share a thread with us, i recommend going for less competitive terms, for faster results

But isn't this a little different from OP's original question. The tags in the gif are somewhat relevant, OP was asking if tags that are irrelevant would hurt him in rankings. (correct me if im wrong)

this is true, but my overall goal with the question was to gain knowledge to better rank and get more exposure for my video and channels, so whatever information is appreciated plz =]

I also bought 1,500 hr views to give it a boost. It's also mixed in with organic views.
I'll let you guys know where it's at this weekend

I usually keep my description looking as natural as possible, I don't add any unnecessary stuff just to stuff the keyword but overall seems like a good approach. Good luck & keep us updated.
