Hey everyone,

i wanted to ask more about youtube, since i started back 6 years ago I've grown organically and its been hard to grow. But lately with the help of all of you I've started to learn more about seo and ranking my videos better. So thanks for that,
moving on,
however when i first started making videos i knew nothing and i would tag my friends with the names of other youtubers i watched, and a lot of my older videos has those clickbait tags or wrong tags. My question is do those tag not only hurt the video but my channel itself from growing? Does youtube see my taggings being a spam and they wont rank or promote my videos?

if anyone has any questions or insight to this please comment below!
thank you al for being a great community!

As long as the tags are not spam they're fine.
The tags were kinda spammy, i would tag popular youtubers names to my videos that had nothing to do with videos.
Im wondering now, maybe that is why my channel didn't get the exposure because of the spam tags and such, that youtube saw my channel and pushed it to the back kind of?
Reason i say this is because at one point i was getting 2k subs a month for 2-3 months in a row, and then it fizzed away. today i went through all of my old videos and worked on the seo on all of them, from title to description to tags and keywords. I corrected and deleted and reworked almost all of them.
hopefully this will help my channel get more exposure and subs.

Let me know what you think.

You should add tags relevant to the video, and a compelling description and thumbnail. If someone sees your tags or spam description, you could be reported. So, good move there, deleting them (the spammy ones).

Though it wont hurt You, it will hurt your rankings. If You call your tags spammy yourself then You can be sure that google will see them as spam. But I think no one can really tell You why your channel isnt getting more subs without taking alook at it. Spammy tags definitively hurt your rankings, but proper tagging doesnt guarantee You will be successful. I am also not sure if removing the tags will help You to rank better. Google might have classified You as blackhat/spammy and removing questionable tags or links might not change that... It's a lot harder to reestablish trust than to loose it...

I've got a question for you guys, how would you guys know if the tags are getting "spammy"? Any indications what-so-ever? How many tags would be safe? ( estimate )

It's not about the quantity. It's about the tags themselves. If you're uploading a video about football, you can't add tags of famous football teams unless the video is about them. It's ethics.

So, I'm free to put as many tags as I want as long as it's related to the topic, yes?

So does anyone know if YouTube has markers my channel as spam? Is there anyway to check or correct this?

Comment on a video that isn't yours and has few comments, log out, and then check if the comment is there. If it is, you're not flagged.

don't think it should be an issue but I think if someone were to report you it may violate the community guidelines under spam.

But people can't see ur tags unless they have some sort of program tho

They can - wether it's using a program, via YouTube Public API or source code.

The fact is, if you want to go safe, use compelling keywords, both on the tags area and the description.

how do you even see a video's tags that isnt yours?

For example, right click, source code -> search for keywords.

Can you pm your channel? If not its cool.
But my plan for my channel is to get more exposure right now. I see others who somehow become a overnight success. I literally mean overnight, one second they stuck at 50k subs next week they at 200k

interesting, couldn't someone look at a popular video and use the same tags and title to get a sort of promotion?

@http://www.blackhatworld.com/members/foxkoneko.367496/ i use vidIQ chrome extension, this is a great tool that can teach you what does works and why, it will show you the full tags of a video
@http://www.blackhatworld.com/members/jjgg89.932538/ don't guess, just search the main terms in your niche, and copy the same tags that #1 top videos uses, make sure you have the main term on the title and 2-3 times in the description
if this is working for them, it will work for you. but keep in mind that the initial index is counted. i don't know how fast changes on old videos will get re-indexed again.

Yes they can but they will not get ranked higher unless their video was better.
