I've listed to a podcast once where the guest speaker said that he tried various other stores but Amazon was performing by far the best for him.

I've got about 10/k words I put together this week for a Kindle book and will have a cover done and publish it by the middle of next week hopefully. The info in this thread is very good and some of the good fortune is an inspiration.

I could actually put 5K words down in about 3 hours every day as I'm a little nutty like that.

My niches are all business and finance so I expect some competition and do th
ink that I would need to price the books at a higher price point to attract the kinds of people that would read my stuff.
Am I wrong there?
Also, do you guys put links to your sites in your books?

@prix2030: I focus on Amazon only. Yes, maybe I would sell more if I would use services like Smashwords, Kobo, B&N and so on. But my thought is: I am new to this business. I do not want to do more work than necessary to me. I'd have to check which service is the best, how the payment expires etc.. Of course it would be cool to have directly a great website for my niches. And it would be cool to publishe my books in all the major stores. But I can not have everything at the beginning. Step by Step. And my first plan is to achieve a good income with Amazon. Then we'll see...

That's hard to say. A high price can attract the interest of the people. However, they will have very high expectations. Your book should therefore also have a good quality. I think it could work in the business niche. Look at it from the perspective of the customers: Maybe a book for 99 cents looks too cheap for a business man (Maybe he thinks: cheaper price - cheaper content?). I do not know, because I'm not a psychologist.^^ Just try it and see what happens. I think you also can find many articles about it on the internet. If I remember correctly, you can use Amazon affiliate links, but I could be wrong. But I know for a fact, that they encourage devs to use Amazon affiliate links in mobile apps.

Small update: My sixth book is going very well after the promo period. It is not in the same niche like my other 5 books, but it seems to push my other books. Yesterday I earned 88$(!!!). Today it looks good too. Tomorrow I will publish my seventh book (esoteric niche) with a different pseudonym and build a new author (new Facebook page and so on).

I am currently selling about 10 copies of my book 6.99$-book. So I plan to publish 2 more expensive books next month and try to reach the 200$/day-mark. After that (in august), I am for 4 weeks on vacation.


So keep on guys. Kindle is an awesome business, if you are willing to work hard.

I too decided that I won't go under 2.99 USD for any of my books. It's 2.99 USD or more.

Do non-fiction work better? I have written quite a bit of fiction and was wondering if I could utilize it?

Also are those pages single or double spaced?

@Pinger030: Heh, I just had a similar experience to yours in regard to user comments. Someone left a 2 star review on my eBook, but it's not about the eBook at all - it's some random jabbering with their affiliate link to some product. I've reported the comment, let's see what happens.

Pro #3: Once you get a system down, you can easily produce a book a day. Even if you only make one sale a day, that's $2. You have 10 books? That's $20 a day. You have 50 book? Hello, $100 per day. The possibilities are endless. Literally.

I actually just posted this in another thread responding to a similar question:

There are a few factors to look for when determining a niche's value:

Daily Spend
Competition

It's rather easy to look into as well and I have a great write up on the process (free) at http://www.zonsidekick.com but essentially you want to do this:

1) Start with a list of keywords that users are searching for (based on Amazon's suggestion algorithms)
2) Check each keyword for products with respectable best seller ranks in the relevant listings (20k and beyond)
3) Determine whether or not the niche is "cornered" (are all sales going to a single product, and can you really compete?)

Hopefully that helps clear it up a bit.

If you follow that process you'll find solid niches that you can take action on in the same day you begin, it's really about an optimal procedure.

Thanks, @Carepolice. I thought he meant that a book can be produced in a day and ready for publishing. I can research a niche in a few hours, but then I spend a lot of hours finding relevant material, then I spend a few more hours looking for nice covers/description ideas, etc. My writer also needs 4-5 days to re-write the whole thing and to format it for Kindle. And, to start right, you also need to get some reviews first. It's a lengthy process.

But I guess the real fun starts once you have a series of books out and interlinked. Then you can start Kindle free promotion days and with 5-10k downloads, someone will surely buy other books as well. With enough books out, you can regularly have those free promo days and indirectly promoting your other books constantly.

But the quality needs to be good - because even if it's the best possible, people will always b*tch about something. So you need to make sure that most reviews are positive.
