Just an update here.
I've started seeing sales come in on nicely priced items($300+) so this method does work. What's pretty cool is that I'm actually getting more traffic from search engines than from pinterest per my analytics. So maybe the sales are coming from the SE's, but I've done absolutely no SEO work (no title or desc tags set. nothing). My account is only at 1600 followers due to getting my first account suspended.
Some tips:
-Eventually you'll get invited to fashion/style boards. I started repinning my already pinned items, but putting the category page as the source. This got my account banned due to spam complaints (pinned to each board 3 times a day). Even though the category page still had the item I pinned so be careful.
-There are bot accounts that will follow you. They always have 26 boards and a suspended twitter account. Since they're doing mass following as well more than likely their followers will follow you back. If you want to build followers up quickly, try following their followers.
-Quality over quantity. Choose designer items. I sold a $400 watch and $400 dress. Much better than a $40 watch and $40 dress. You can also mix in some lower priced items, but I mainly choose items from those well known in the fashion scene (which I spent some time researching up)
-Follow the followers of the designers that you have on your site. They are targeted and many of them will repin your items. More repins means more exposure.
Hope that helps.
