Did Google Penalize All My Sites?

Backlinking is still the #1 factor in Google's algorithm. It certainly is less important than it once was, but you are going to have a hard time ranking with no links. Link building is certainly not dead, and will always be a huge part of their algo.

It's the fact that you're "building links" is the problem. Your content should build links naturally. I would focus on social signals and optimizing the site to be easily shared when visitors land on your site. Link building is dead!

no disrespect. but can you give us some personal proof that link building is dead.:cheer2:

I didn't say you don't need backlinks to rank. I said building backlinks is dead and no I'm not trolling. It's sad to see so many people misleading others with all this SEO BS.

I have sites that I've never built a link to and never wrote a word of my own content and they get 1/5k visitors daily, Not to mention they bank hard with Adsense and Infolinks. So yeah, most of you are wasting your time. I stick to this notion "build sites people like" not Google. I outrank SEO's using Autoblogs with copy/paste content and people love it. That's all that matters!!

You do realize what forum you are on right? If you want to be an SEO purist, this is probably the wrong place to be hanging out. Not every niche is as easy as building a site "people like" and traffic and links just magically appear. It's just not that simple.

Link building is alive and well. If you think otherwise, you're being naive.

I know it's a tough cookie to swallow but that's not just something I'm throwing out their. It's the truth and "yes" EVERY niche I enter I dominate by showing true authority in whatever niche I enter. On-page SEO is still alive but building links is pointless.

If people like where you're pointing them to then they will build links for you (socially) and that's what Search Engines look for. That's a fact!

I also know that me saying linkbuilding is dead on a forum like BHW is "bad for business" but that shouldn't matter because 98.99 of people don't listen anyhow. More $$ for me :D

No, they won't listen because you are wrong. Period.

I don't disagree with your methodologies, because I subscribe to them myself. Where I disagree with you 100% is "link building is pointless". I have hundreds of sites, and a very healthy income that will prove you otherwise.

Lets agree to disagree but I will say this.. We'll see who's sites stand the test of time. That's what really matters right? What's the point of having 100's of sites to have them taken out by a SE update. All my sites withstand EVERY single update! I wish you the best of luck though.

I hear what you're saying Procam. I built silestone prices as a test a while back, put up a couple pages, banked adsense, then sold it to flippa. I just checked and it was #2. lol. no backlinking and he must not have either b/c I checked. I backlinked my current sites because I still believe backlinking will be effective. I figured I can't always get a winner like that one.

lol. I think I'll continue to build links and rank my sites in under 2-3 weeks. My backlinked sites withstand every update too, so I don't know what you mean by having 100s of sites being taken out.

The only sites that don't withstand updates are sites that I have no intention of keeping long term. They're called rank and bank sites. It takes virtually no time for these sites to be built, and ranking them is as easy as just paying someone to backlink it for me. 30 minutes of work, a bit of upfront investment, and it brings great ROI before google takes it down. I do these on the side, whenever free time permits.

Normally, I build sites that people want to share on their own, but I use backlinks to quickly get it to first page so people can see it. However, I do call bs on "constant link velocity" though, there does seem to be an upper limit for this, but there's no lower limit, because once my site is ranked (if there are no competitors), I slow down the link building and then completely stop it altogether, and the sites stay ranking for years.

Hi Twisted, I have a question. I started this thread b/c I have been backlinking like 6 weeks now (all norm method) and nothing has happened. I mean one word jumped up coupe hundred spots but is still way down in the serps. I don't think it's on my end with the backlinking and I'm guessing now it's the keywords (people on this thread said prob was not google hitting all my sites with penalty but possible). When you backlink and rank in a short time, are the keywords golden? Like phrases you can definitely rank for? I use UD for T1 and GSA for T2-3, all standard shit, manual spun, etc, etc. Can you help dude?

I also don't think it's a penalty that's hitting you because of ip. I have most of my sites hosted on the same IP (shared hosting) including my rank and bank sites, yet my main sites still remain fine. I think the problem lies in using UD as tier 1. Don't get me wrong, UD is not bad for tier 1, but people tend to make a lot of common mistakes, and that holds true for most automated tools. The problem usually lies with correctly placing anchor texts within the article. It's hard to automate this to look natural. You can definitely rank sites with UD as tier 1, but these sites usually won't stay that long unless you've mastered the tool to be able to create footprint-free properties. You can rank with unnatural links, there's no denying it, but these links usually don't stand the test of time.

What I mean is, you need to insert the anchors so that the contextual text surrounding it is very unique all the time. If you insert it with html manually, usually what ends up happening is you have unique anchors, but the text surrounding it is the same spun sentence (or 4 sentences) over and over again. And once you've built enough of these, it's not hard for google to know that the anchor is always next to the same spun sentence.

If you use the automatic insertion of anchors, the problem here is you don't get enough variation, all your anchors tend to be keywords. You don't have naturally placed generic keywords, long filler keywords, long anchors which include the keyword within it, brand keywords, main keyword combined with brand keyword, etc. Again, you can rank regardless, but rankings are often short-lived once google catches up with your footprint.

Another mistake of UD for tier 1 is creating hundreds of web 2.0 properties, leaving 1 article on it and having that article backlink to your site (sometimes even multiple times). This can rank your site, but once again it's a huge footprint that will catch up to you sooner or later. (These are all great for rank and bank site strategies, but not for sites that you want to keep long term).

For long term sites, you need to think about naturalness, and if you can automate it, perfect, but I find it easier to just create tier 1 manually. I set up a network of web 2.0s all with different usernames, etc. And make sure to post unique content on all of them (with no links). Let google index them all on it's own (if you did this right, made the accounts look natural, google usually indexes it on its own within a few days, no pinging at all).

Your articles should look natural too, lots of formatting (lists, headers, bold where appropriate, images, video, etc.). Once this is done, post 1 article from each property with 1 link to your money site. You can also post more articles linking to your inner pages. Don't forget to link out to authority websites too. Keep it natural. That's it, if you did it right, these tier 1 links will stick there forever (mine are all over a year old now). Now you can do tier 2 to these tier 1 links in moderation, but I no longer use this strategy (I power mine up with private blog network links - this is more advanced so you don't need to worry about it yet). Also, this network can be re-used over and over to backlink all your websites (don't use all of them though for each site, use like 60% of them).

You also need to add in variation to your backlink types. Usually having custom web 2.0s (not the generic ones founds in most automated tools), a few articles/doc sharing, and a few private blog network posts is more than enough variation.

One of the biggest lies that get's passed around so much (I felt for it for years) is that web 2.0 links are "powerful." The truth is, properly set up and maintained web 2.0s are high quality, not 2-second web 2.0s with a single post on it. Those work to rank you, but it won't keep you ranked.

I'm just sharing what's working for me. So it's up to you if you want to re-evaluate your linking strategy, or not. I understand that this forum has a reputation for people wanting the path with less work at every corner, and they tend to procrastinate on making the necessary changes they know they should make. It's one of the reasons why so many here don't make money, and I no longer try to convince people what to do. I just share what's worked for me, and let them decide if they want to absorb it into their own strategy or not.

EDIT: Do all your sites look identical with footprints that link them all together? I remember 3-4 years ago google used to drop sites that they knew were all linked to the same person (with 1 violating site triggering this), even if the other sites were clean. I was pretty new in SEO back then so I'm not sure if this was really even happening or not, but I remember hearing about this all over the forums, but it seems like no one has reported this (or forgot about it) in recent times.

One more thing, sometimes people think their site is penalized or filtered, when the real reason is they don't have any real strong backlinks (web 2.0s with 1 articles on it is NOT a strong link). Other times, google has just devalued a bunch of the links you're using making them worthless. If you really want to check what's going on, 301 redirect the site to a new domain. If it starts ranking higher again, it could mean you were penalized (The penalty will transfer over after 1-8 weeks). If it ranks around the exact same position you are in now, it could mean your backlinks are just not very strong to begin with (or have too many footprints that's caused them to be devalued). If this is the case, consider using some high PR homepage blog posts, which you can find on this forum.

Lol I know it's a long post and most people won't even read past paragraph 1, but that's okay. Anyways, I understand your frustration OP, I used to be in the same exact position as you. One thing you got to learn is to test different strategies out for yourself all the time. Once you do this, you'll realize that 80% of the stuff people are spreading on BHW is just outdated info, or regurgitated crap that doesn't work. You have to question why (probably 95%) of the forum members aren't making any real money... do you really want to learn from them? I started making money after I stopped taking whatever people said as fact, and tested it on my own to see if it works for me. So don't take what I'm saying here as fact either, just take the ideas you find useful and test it for yourself.

My rank and bank sites are usually in low-medium competition with around 2k-12k searches a month. I haven't tried competing in competitive niches yet so I can't help you out there if that's what you're doing. There are many other members here who rank and bank in competitive niches, so perhaps you can refer to them for more info.

Man, that was helleva reply my friend. I not only read past para 1 lol, i read this bitch slow and steady. Thanks man for this. It's really insightful. I'm of the old school, hard work and long hours frame of mind. I put some serious time into this backlinking and there is def something wrong. i can see what you mean about UD T1s. I can tell you that I posted several pages from each of the handful of accounts I set up. Web 2's, articles and bookmarks with multiple posts to build up the accounts. But ya, even though I varied the anchor text big time, including raw urls, the standard 'click here' stuff, the keyword phrase, It def is surrounding by that same spun text over and over like you said. I don't interlink my web properties so that part is cool. I'm going to reread this post after another smoke. Thanks man for this information and takin the time to write it out. I really appreciate it.

Been doing this a long time brother. This isn't my first time at the rodeo. A very small % of my sites got hit with all the updates in the last 2 years. Remember, we are talking about an algorithm, not 6 million Google employees watching over the SERPs. As long as you build quality sites with quality natural looking link profiles, you shouldn't have any problems.

Also, just because your sites are organic and pure doesn't mean you can't get hit with an algo iteration. Don't believe me? Check out some of the threads over at Google Webmaster forum or Webmaster World after Penguin and Panda updates. There is no guarantee in the SEO world.

You . Are . A . Fucking . IDIOT

You make 350k+ profit this year? (I DID!)

Then STFU, backlinks WORK. PERIOD.

Do not listen to this SCUM PROPAGANDA.

I think a new update is coming soon. I was studying the red and green arrows under search queries of wmt. Looks like they are preparing to lower ranks of some of my links. But then some others which did not rank well are now having green arrow. It is always a sign that something will be up very soon.

Instead of builing links right now on web 2.0, try social signals. Mix it all up. I mean Facebook, Google plus and twitter should be used together.

Nice. From BST?

F me. I did everything about a diversified IP except the damned hostgator IP on all the sites. Idk y, it just never crossed my mind.

You may want to look into A class IP hosting. Seo hosting is not expensive as it used to be. Search google for dollar seo hosting and $1 seo hosting and you will find a bunch.
Getting accounts at a bunch of hosts will add unnecessary complications.
If you are looking for a 10 Cclasses, we can spread them over 6 A Classes and 7 different B classes for an extra $1/A class IP [no joke]

Biggest mistake most SEO companies make, is by giving you a handful of nameserver, they call anonymous [Seriously???!].
G. can order one of their 10 or 20 ip plans and get all their nameserver and trace the IPs linked to those nameservers, and downgrade all the sites linked to those Ips/nameservers

You must go with a seo hosting provider that offers/requires 100% unique nameservers, so the IPs are protected from search engines' sniffing? seohosting.com is not one of them for sure!

well to be frank you did a lot of dumb shit.

most will disagree and say that seohosting is fine but if you want a legit network then you wont use seohosting.

cheap shared hosting offers much more diversity and prevents from having all your eggs in one basket.

you may be SOL, but it does sound like you have a penalty. maybe in the future myadvice can help. but again, no SEO HOSTING. thats just making it obvious what your goals are with those websites.

did you use proxies servers and what type of cloaking to get those links?
