Hostgator is terrible. Can anyone recommend a good web host?

I know many here are fans of Hostgator. I was too until recently. I've been with Hostgator for 5 years with relatively minimal problems over the years but due to my latest experience, I have to now change web hosts.

Over a week ago, I started noticing problems connecting to my website. Sometimes it'll take 15 seconds or longer to connect, other times it'll just time out. So I tested my website from several different testing services like Pingdom and GTMetrix which showed that after finding and making the initial connection to the hostgator server, it's just waiting 15+ seconds for the hostgator server to start sending the first data. Once hostgator begins sending data, the page loads within 1 second. Talking to 4 different techs, I realized these techs are trained to blame everything else but their server. For example, your ISP is slow, you have too many javascripts, you have too many CSS, you need to set leveraging caching longer, etc. Even when it's obvious the problem is with their server. I even created a blank empty webpage with no javascripts, plugins, or etc and it still took 15+ seconds to load this empty page verified from several different testing servers.

My request to be moved to a different server was denied. They won't even acknowledge something is wrong with their server and says their server is perfectly fine. Despite all the test results I sent them showing that the server is non-responsive. After speaking with 4 different techs, all that refused to do anything, I just can't deal with hostgator anymore. Can anyone recommend a good web host I can move to?

Hostwinds was horrible for me. So much downtime and support kept side stepping my questions. BHW was hosted with them about a year ago and it was down all the time.

I use stablehost now and no problems at all.

I've been a happy customer of MediaTemple for the past year and a half.
They have down-to-earth staff that are available for support chat 24/7, and they know their Shit.
I'm using the Grid Server option, which scales the amount of ressources your websites needs proportionally to the number of visitors you get... Which means if any of your projects go viral overnight, you can be pretty sure that your website will handle the rush.

If you let a site go viral with hostgator baby plan, instead of giving you more ressources to handle your increasing popularity, they shut you down for tkaing too much CPU ressources... The day that happened to me is the thay i decided to never come back at hostgator.

Hostgator recently moved to some new hardware on my accounts, so perhaps this is where the issue has come from?

Anyway, I'm also with Linode which I love, but it isn't your typical shared hosting deal, only good if you know command line linux and how to set up your own server.

Namecheap hosting is rumored to be good. The only thing that stops me from using them is the "dont keep all eggs in the same basket" rule. E.q. if you bought your domain with them, then if/once they ban you, you'll lose everything.

I am using hostgator for the past 5 years without any issues. I have clients using different hosting providers except rockspace i am not satisfied with others. May be it depends on others eyes.
If you don't like Hostgator then start using godaddy you start loving hostgator.

I've been with Hostnine.com for the past 5 years and have no complaints.

On a reseller account you can migrate servers at a click of a button. I've done this a few times when one of my sites is loading slow or my emails aren't coming through.

The best way to be happy is leave shared hosting behind. I had a shared Hostgator account for 3 years. I dumped it when my sites kept getting banned for resource use. I transferred all my sites to two $7 a month VPSs, and they run fine. So moving off shared reseller hosting on Hostgator saved me money and gave me better service. Sooner or later if you are serious about your sites, you will move to hosting them yourself on a VPS. Hint: Sooner is better.
