Hostgator is terrible. Can anyone recommend a good web host?

To be free and frank i don't recommend godaddy at all why because i faced lot of problems from them in the past
so stay away op cheers!

Yes..! I agree with you..Godaddy is really a useless shit..Pleae avoid them. Its better.
If possible try togglebox. It is a cloud server. On first subscription you get 3 months free package. It worked great when i used it.So,have a try.

The best way to be happy is leave shared hosting behind. I had a shared Hostgator account for 3 years. I dumped it when my sites kept getting banned for resource use. I transferred all my sites to two $7 a month VPSs, and they run fine. So moving off shared reseller hosting on Hostgator saved me money and gave me better service. Sooner or later if you are serious about your sites, you will move to hosting them yourself on a VPS. Hint: Sooner is better.

How do you manage your VPS? Who set up is and update when necessary? The server issues, security and updates are the last thing i want to care about.

I've been with HG in the past, and my sites loaded extremely slowly. I now use tsohost or vidahost without any issues.

Just stopping by to mention I've been noticing the exact same issue. I know people who use Bluehost without issue, probably going to check them out.

bluehost - no way.

tested them, their cpanel is whacked. you can see the error logs of all shared accounts on your server!! UNBELIEVABLE SECURITY ISSUE. and it's not a bug, they just configured it this way. "if you want to see your own errors, just click ctrl+F on your browser and search your own domain in the 'mutual' error log". yep they write it there (in very similar words). INSANE.

plus you click stuff in cpanel, you get banners. then you need to click again to get to the cpanel page you wanted. worse than godaddy upsells.

hostgator has been fine for me so far (using them for a while now).

well i was with goddady for a long time and i never had problems with em, and pretty good customer service too

I can recommend Hostwinds,
The support is helpful and friendly, also the sites load fast too.

OP I have the same issues as you been fixing according to gmetrics. My loads are 10+ and some of my static images show up when they are good-n-ready. Sucks just working on it. They hinted at CDN... I'm researching other companies. Weren't they bought by a large company few months back?

Ones that I am currently using and happy with.......Stablehost, Hoststage, and Hostthename.

I strongly and seriously recommend hostmydomainnow.com. Support is instantenous; no arguments, always ready to help. Monthly is reasonable, too. dgp

Hostgator is for basic websites - and that's it .. I just opened a new account there a few days ago - and no problems at all.

Plugins / Images / # of Sites - all play a role in how your site performs.

Obviously my Dedicated runs way better .... but that's $300 a month not $8 .... so like everything in life you get what you pay for.

I've been with them for years myself. Never had any trouble worth mentioning that other hosts haven't had either. Be careful about moving. Plenty of shady and/or inferior services out there.

Just to name a few ... HostGator, StableHost, HawkHost, JustHost, CertifiedHosting you cant go wrong with.
