I'm building the NEXT Facebook!

In my opinion it could be possible to make it big with it.

Possible? Of course it is - not a single service is forever, there will be something at some point to exceed the popularity of Facebook. It might not be happening anytime soon, but it will happen eventually.

Just the fact that people will hear that there is a second facebook will make people curious and encourage people a lot to see what it looks like

If you're going to ride with the term "Second Facebook", better be ready for some serious anus soaping - you just can't make it big with someone else's trademark like that. And what are the other really big contenders currently? Google Plus? With many plus (no pun intended) sides, there's still practically nobody there. Just the most tech savvy users.

And what happened to Diaspora? Haven't heard about that anywhere lately...

So just because you're trying to beat Facebook in their own game doesn't mean that people will be interested in it, because why would they change? All their friends and connections are on Facebook already, so why start again from the scratch?

there is also a big group of anti facebook people that you could get into too.

Yes there is; same people who praised Google Plus for it allowing users to own the rights to their material, and praising Diaspora for it's open-source nature. Yet, here we are.

Do you have any idea how many of these threads I have seen. Do you know how many people have succeeded. If you want to make money online, go for the possible instead of wasting your time on the impossible.

All the best dude... Haters gonna hate... Take the wishes only and carry on with your project.. and even If you can try hard and take your site to 15-20% of Facebook traffic .. you will be banking $$$$...
:drinking2

People actually sit on this forum and wait for something to criticize. F***ing losers.. They have their own limits, don't let them alter yours. They're borderline retarded.. I bet half of them burly make anything online. Give it a shot, create something that you will use, people just like you will also be interested. If you fail, try again. Repeat until you find success. Good luck!! :D

Go Big or Go Home

Good luck with your project op. I like it how you are aggressive and not afraid to take on the big boys. If you truly believe in your product then go for it. Keep us update on how it goes!

Can't believe this thread has 44 posts. OP there is one thing to have a dream and reach for the stars but I think you are delusional to make that statement without backing it up. Have goals but be realistic in your abilities. Everything about your post says you are a dreamer. I am not trying to be negative but without backing it up with facts i.e how much coding experience do you have, how big is your team, how much has been invested, what venture capitalists have jumped on board then you sound like a child. Also from the comments it seems there are others that need to get in touch with reality.

Your chances of making something unique and making it big are far better than trying to imitate something huge already there with most the people in the world using it. I do not want to sound negative or nasty, but the best advice you are going to hear is stop dreaming and go for the possible, before you end up wasting all your money and many years.

I have a Diaspora "killer" on a drive somewhere I decided to drop (figuring Diaspora would kill FB and open the space for even better - Oh Hubris!). Seeing the outcomes from that project for the founding genius convinced me that gov interests present too much of a barrier for mine

But go for it! I like your style. Better to fail while shooting for the moon - you don't know where you'l end up

The idea of usurping FB is tosh, of course - but you can make a lot trying & failing, if you go about it right

Thing to remember folks is that even colossal failures can be hugely personally profitable - if monetized/right back found

Never been on FB - so it'd be great for me if you'd keep your thread going as to progress

Dont compare education with intelligence. Money and education has nothing to do together, look at Sean Parker, he didnt studied and he is richer than 99.99999% that studied in Harvard or whatever you want. Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs. Same example of geniuses, of course that building the same concept and trying to overcome a beast like Facebook sounds too big but not to be understimated if he is willing to accept the challenge.
Education has everything to do with it,sure many of todays most successful millionaires and billionaires may not have an higher education from universities and colleges, HOWEVER they are indeed Self-Educated in their passions! Most even say they never stop learning, they are actually learning everyday with their experience in their business/failures/new ventures/pass ventures This is why they prevail because they are the masters of their passions(all the people you mentioned taught themselves how to code to a higher degree than the norm because it was their passions, with the ability to not only dream it but actually do it. There is a huge difference between a dreamer and someone who will actually go and do it, The OP is just bragging about something I feel like he has absolutely no idea what he is trying to take on,why? because the OP has failed to mention any concrete steps he has taken to make himself different from the majority who always just come to bhw and claim this and that and all NEVER come back to bhw as the next Facebook/amazon/google big thing creator you get my point.

I recommend you read The Education of Millionaires

btw Ive been making a living online for 6 years, banked over 100,000k so far this year so I know a little bit about what Im talking about. One more thing,Im a high school drop out.

Sean Parker is richer than WHO exactly? He is indeed rich, but c'mon.... bottom of the Forbes list... next time you grab straws for your argument... go with "Michael Bloomberg" ... you need a role model bro.

What I believe is that EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.There were other Social sites before facebook jumped into the scene, they're still Beateable, all We need is a man with Vision, Wisdom, Guts, And lots, lots of Money.Goodluck Bro, You can Do It, Believe Yourself And We'll follow suit. However, don't build a facebook like website, build a website LIKE NEVER SEEN BEFORE!.

I decided to start a 2nd Facebook. The name is-Fuckbook...wait that already exists

Good luck OP. Don't let those jealous people put you down.

But one thing I'd say that only unique ideas grow, if you want to duplicate something, you'll never have the same success.

Do you actually understand the meaning of the word "jealous". How exactly does giving someone good advice by saying it is not worth it make people jealous? There is a very very big difference between having a positive attitude and and being misguided following a dream. All the positivity in the world does not mean you will take a monopoly down.

My advice become an expert in your field and know all the ins and outs if all goes tits up atleast you can secure a job at Facebook!
