I'm building the NEXT Facebook!

I don't understand these people who knock the ops dreams.
I see a lot of people talking about needing a ton of money,
The op says he has a site, If he can get 1000 members and somehow earn a $100 a month from them, then he has a business, if he invests the money back into getting more members and again earn from them. he can grow the site.

He doesnt have to beat facebook today or tomorrow or even next year for that matter,

I just want to wish the op the best of luck, and a Happy Christmas

So how is it different?

Of course it's not impossible to be the next Facebook. It's just incredibly unlikely and these post have shown up here before. Even if your site is better in every way you still need a fuckload of luck to go anywhere with it.

So again what is different and why would some one start using your site?
 
Well by the looks of things, you have caused a bit of a storm here with your first post.. so who knows?! Gotta start somewhere right!
 
Never know if you can crush it. Facebook did not knew what they were upto. May be you know already so, it can be a big hit. I hope you don't want more facebook friends.
 
Sounds interesting. At least a screenshot would be good to get an idea of what you're talking about. BUT PLEASE don't configure phpBB and call it a revolutionary social network!

I don't know why you'd want to emulate Facebook, or twitter;-)
I think there is a gap for a new social network, but you need to think outside the box.

And don't tell ppl to contact you via your biggest competitor- that's is a no no.

Building th website is step one. Promoting the website will take the greater part of it.

Try to bring something new in answering this question :

Why ppl would leave Facebook for?

Either way, successful or not keep doing what you do!
 
So what's the address of your new social network site? Which new feautures it will include? And what you will do about the competition.

Who let you out of your cage?

Knowing one's limits in many cases is good practice - you really need rock solid plan with loads of something actually new and useful to go beat multi-billion dollar company in their own game.
Nobody denies that it's very possible to beat existing competition for anything out there, but something just is not worth it.

Not to say that OP's project is useless - he's either going to find a way not to make money, or make it big time - just saying that things like these don't really happen in a month or two with the idea of "making a new Facebook".
 
I think we need something simple - like a cross between SMS, IRC and Instagram - cos the main things ppl like doing is messaging and sharing pictures.

So you have a hot messaging system where people can message each other, create texting groups, add people to comvos, etc.

Then have image lockers and so on. And have the ability to share/hide every single aspect individually.

Personally I think the worst thing about FB is that it's too complicated.
And the worst thing about twitter is that it's too simple.
