Driving Targeted Traffic With Twitter

Twitter can be extremely powerful for driving targeted traffic to your site and increasing conversions. The best part about this method is that, once it is setup, it will drive traffic on autopilot. I have been using this method for awhile and it is responsible for a good amount of my traffic on certain sites.

***Before attempting this method, it is important to keep in mind, that Twitter is a social network and people are on there to have a good time. Make sure your site is one that people will enjoy visiting or seek utility from. For example, if your site focuses on funny memes, you are good to go. Contrarily, if your site is about the side effects of a pharmaceutical drug, this method will not work as well (maybe not at all).

What you will need:

• A website with an RSS feed
• 5+ Twitter Accounts
• 1 Twitterfeed Account

Step 1

Create your Twitter accounts. I recommend using at least 5 accounts. Of course, if you want to scale this method you can use as many accounts as you want. The more accounts you have, the more traffic you will get. When creating these accounts, make them relevant to your niche. For example, if your niche is funny internet memes, make sure your profile reflects that. This way you will get targeted traffic from users who actually WANT to see your site. Make sure to make the bio, profile pic, and page layout look nice and professional.

Step 2

Create a Twitterfeed account. TwitterFeed is a site that takes new entries from your RSS feed and turns them in to tweets. Account creation is super easy.

Step 3

Login into your TwitterFeed account and click "Create New Feed." Enter the url of your RSS feed. Move on to Step 2 of the process, and link all of your Twitter accounts to that feed. This is the most tedious part of the process, especially if you are using a ton of accounts. Once you do this, every one of your accounts will post a status every time you post something new on one of your sites.

NOTE: You may want to post some Tweets without links too.

Step 4

Now that everything is all setup, it is time to start building up the Twitter accounts. I use the follow/unfollow method. For those of you who don't know what that is, you follow a bunch of people and unfollow those who don't follow me back within 2 (give or take) days. There are many programs that do this, but you can do it manually as well. When scraping people to follow, I like to scrape followers of a user who is prominent/influential in my niche. I have found that these users convert the best. After all, they are already interested in what you are trying to promote. Make sure you gather different sets of followers for every account so you don't have multiple accounts with the same followers.

NOTE: Be careful how fast you follow people, as you do not want to arouse any suspicion from Twitter especially if the account is new. I usually start with 10-20 follows the first few days, then work my way up to 100, and ultimately get to 1000 follows a day.

Now, you are done! Every time you post something on your site, it has the potential to reach thousands of people. The more you scale, the more traffic you will get. The more you post on your site, the more traffic you will get.

Important things to keep in mind:

• This will only work if you have a site people WANT to visit
• Make sure your site is properly monetized for this kind of traffic (AdSense and CPA offers work well)
• Post frequently and with catchy titles
• Target users who will have a direct interest in your site. This one is a HUGE factor.
• Scale it up - This method can be scaled infinitely. Obviously, the best way to scale this is by creating a ton of Twitter accounts.
• Try not to follow the same people with more then one of your accounts

great method. i use feedburner, as well as other services that automatically tweet your blog posts as soon as you publish your article. i have around 20 tweets per post at one time. traffic from twitter is great if you have your niche set up correctly.

I use this same method but with some changes: I tweet random posts directly from the database of my wordpress site with a custom php script. I don't use rss, I think it's better if your niche doesn't depend on time (pe. news), if you tweet posts that are irrelevant to the current time nobody is gonna click them.

I've been using this method for more than a year now without a problem from Adsense.

If you were doing this manually, how would you make sure you never added the same person on another twitter account? without a program keeping track of it all i would see it being very difficult

Just be careful when scraping users to follow/unfollow. You obviously wouldn't want to follow a certain Twitter account's followers with all your accounts.
Scrape users related to your niche from keyword #1 or Twitter account #1 to use for one of your own accounts to follow.
Scrape users related to your niche from keyword #2 or Twitter account #2 to use for one of your own accounts to follow.

I just got done setting this up. I am trying to build an authority site and my site have multiple categories so I made 1 twitter account for each category. I am using the follow/unfollow method but to target each account I just search for my keyword and start following the people who have recently tweeted with the keyword. I have used this method on my main account with great results.
